Obituary of Margaret Melsted

In Loving Memory Of Margaret Melsted

Margaret Edna Melsted of Wynyard, SK passed away on January 30th, 2025. She was

born on July 30th, 1929 in Healdsburg, California to Andrew Braille Nolin and Lucile Edna Dytro. She received her nursing degree in California where she started her career and then relocated to Denver, Colorado where she married her first husband, Chuck. They had one son, John, who also graced them with two grandchildren, Jonie and Roseann. After Ken was widowed, Ken and Margaret found each other and Margaret moved to Wynyard in the early 1990’s to marry the love of her life. Margaret enjoyed the farming atmosphere and taking meals to the field. Ken and Margaret travelled the world together, enjoying many cruises and other trips abroad until their health no longer allowed them to.

Margaret was a member of many community organizations including the Wynyard Hospital Auxilliary, Lioness, Eastern Star and the Quill Plains Art Council. Margaret loved animals, especially her cat Garfield. Her friend Jack would always bring his dogs out to the farm to play outside and stop in for a visit with Margaret. Jack was also the driver of the Special services bus, and special arrangements were made so the bus could go out of town to pick Margaret up and take her home. Margaret would almost never just go into town and back. Whether it was Jack or Steve driving, she would ride the bus for a few extra hours and visit with them if the bus wasn’t too busy.

Margaret spent many hours watching the cooking channel. She also spent many hours sitting at the kitchen table at the farm doing crossword puzzles and drinking coffee. Her coffee would sometimes turn into a rum and coke, later in the day, when her Grandson Graham would stop by for a visit. She always looked forward to her visits from Graham. Margaret was adamant that she was never going to move into Golden Acres. She wanted to live on the farm in the house where she shared so many memories with Ken. She tried her darndest to not have to leave the farm, but she ended up falling and needing some extra care and agreed to give Golden Acres a try. Once she was there, she loved it. It wasn’t a secret that Anna and Kristy were her favorites. They took Margaret under their wing the day she moved in. She always spoke about how special they were to her and how much they went above and beyond to care for her. During her time at Golden Acres, she loved the visiting and socializing, the activities, especially Bingo and Coin Dice and she made sure that Laura had activities that “weren’t too childish” to suit her needs. She would sit at her table with her cup of coffee and get it topped up all day long. While she was in Golden Acres she found a new love for adult coloring and spent many hours coloring or doing crosswords. She always looked forward to her phone calls from Jonie and her visits from her family and friends.

Margaret is survived by her: sister Wanda Vining; granddaughters Jonie Drake (Jonathon) and Roseann; niece Debbie Sohrweide (Paul); and by Kens family: Patty Chabot (Serge); Rosanna Gartley (John); Graham Melsted (Alana), Ryan Melsted (Kayla), Adrienne Jackson (Candace) and Raeanne Muir (Brett); Lyndon Morrison (Charmaine); Sheldon Morrison (Alonna), Gordon Morrison and many great grandchildren. She is preceded by her son John, husband Ken and his son, Bruce.
