Celebrating The Life Of Katie Kaufenberg

Kay was born to Carl and Katie Schofer on April 23, 1936, in Waldron Saskatchewan. She attended school until Grade 8, and after school, she looked after her siblings and helped on the farm.

Kay married her first husband, Herman Tom, and together they built a life. After Herman had several heart attacks, they decided it would be best to sell the farm and move to Melville. Kay and Herman were married for 20 years before he passed away when Kay was only 43, leaving her to navigate life as a widow.

In 1987, Kay’s life took a beautiful turn when she met Eric Kaufenberg at a singles dance in Yorkton. The two formed a connection that would last a lifetime. After spending 7 years together they married on November 12, 1994. Kay and Eric shared their love for travel and it became one of their greatest joys. They took many trips to the United States, including Hawaii, and even drove down to Mexico several times. Eric’s thoughtful gestures, like taking Kay out for coffee and meals, were moments she cherished. They spent countless hours enjoying card games, visiting with friends, and creating memories that will remain in their hearts.

Kay was a proud farmwife and took pride in the role she played in supporting the farm. She enjoyed lending a hand, especially milking the cows. Her love for baking was well-known, especially her delicious pies and angel food cakes. Kay was an avid canner, and those who were lucky enough to visit her, got a taste. She spent countless hours babysitting children in Melville, a role she embraced with love and patience. Kay showcased her green thumb through her gardening and the beautiful plants she nurtured that filled their home. She loved playing cards and especially going out for coffee with Eric and friends.

Kay will be remembered by her loving husband Eric, with whom she spent 30 wonderful years, as well as by her family and friends.
