Obituary of Sandy Arnason

In Loving Memory Of Sandy Arnason

Sandy was born on July 15, 1960, to Alex and Gloria Chaykowski in Edmonton, Alberta, the youngest of four children. She spent much of her early years enjoying family trips to Rosevalley, where memories of laughter and togetherness shaped her childhood.

In 1978, Sandy moved to Wynyard, Saskatchewan, where she would go on to build a life full of love, family, and friendships. In 1980, Sandy married Alfred Dubiel, and together they were blessed with three children: Natashia (deceased 1981), Jason, and Kayla. After their separation, Sandy remained in Wynyard, raising her children with strength, compassion, and devotion.

Sandy later met Murray, and their love blossomed over the years. They were married on August 15, 1993, and were blessed with a daughter, Beth. Sandy and Murray’s bond was a testament to love, laughter, and the deep joy of family.

Throughout her life, Sandy worked at various jobs, with many years spent at Lilydale Foods. Though she may not have always enjoyed the work itself, Sandy treasured the lasting friendships she built there. In 2016, Sandy was forced to retire due to health challenges, and she embraced a new chapter in life becoming a full-time grandmother.

Family was at the heart of everything Sandy did. She loved watching her children grow, supporting them in all their endeavors, and volunteering on committees for various activities. Sandy had an immense love for music, cooking, baking, time at the lake and her friends, all of which were woven into the fabric of her daily life.

When Sandy’s grandchildren arrived, she found new joy in spending time with them. She delighted in playing games, baking treats, and crafting together, creating memories that will last a lifetime. As the proudest and loudest Grandma in the stands, Sandy cheered on her grandkids with all her heart. Their accomplishments brought her immense pride, and she wore her role as a grandmother with love and joy.

In her later years, Sandy found a love for travel, exploring new places and enjoying her favorite hot destinations. She made unforgettable memories in the UK, Mexico, and Hawaii.

In the summer of 2022, Sandy was met with a life-altering diagnosis: an aggressive form of breast cancer. By the time it was discovered, the cancer had already metastasized to her liver and hip. Despite the gravity of the news, Sandy faced her illness with unwavering strength and resolve, diving into treatment with full force.

She endured a grueling chemotherapy regimen followed by years of targeted therapies, all while maintaining her signature determination, resilience, and positivity. In the fall of 2024, Sandy received devastating news—the targeted treatments had lost their effectiveness, and a new primary cancer had developed on her pancreas.

At that point, Sandy made the courageous decision to forgo further treatment. She chose instead to spend her remaining time at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her friends and family, embracing every moment with grace.

Sandy is survived by her father, Alex; husband, Murray; son, Jason; daughters, Kayla (Ryan) and Beth; grandchildren, Dylan, Cooper, and Oliver; sisters, Lorna (Ken) and Shelly; brother, Kelly (Anna); sisters-in-law, Sharon (Roger), Thora, and Terry; and brother-in-law, Stefan (Carolina). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandy is predeceased by her mother, Gloria; daughter, Natashia (in infancy); and her in-laws, Gwen and Thor; as well as her brother-in-law, Calvin.

Sandy’s infectious laughter, boundless love for her family, and warm-hearted nature will be forever missed. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to brighten our lives.

Rest in peace, Sandy. You will always be in our hearts
