Obituary of Orest Zastrizny

In Loving Memory Of Orest Zastrizny 

Beloved husband, father, Gido, and Great Gido, Orest Leonard Zastrizny passed away

on April 12, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. at Regina General Hospital in the CCU. Orest passed

away at the age of 77.

On February 11, 1948, Orest was born in Foam Lake, SK to Leon and Doris Zastrizny,

he was one of four siblings. They lived on a farm just South of Sheho and took his

schooling at Fosti School. He left school in Grade 8 to help on the family farm. At the

age of 18 Orest started his career with CP Rail.

On May 5, 1973, Orest married Judy Hudyma from the Sheho area in the Holy Trinity

Ukrainian Church in Sheho. Orest and Judy settled on a farm South of Sheho to start

their little family. On October 19, 1973, they welcomed their first-born son Darcy. Five

years later on September 14, 1978, a daughter Darscilla. Two years later their youngest

son Darren was born on September 14, 1980.

Orest worked most of his life with CP Rail and he retired in 2005. In 2004 Orest and

Judy decided to move off the farm and into a house right in the town of Sheho.

In 2013, Orest was diagnosed with kidney cancer, which led to one kidney's removal. In

2015 he started dialysis at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. In 2023 he received a

kidney transplant only for his body to reject it. From here on out Orest had issues with

his health and in and out of the hospitals. In 2024 Orest started back on dialysis and

found his new home at Weber's House in Yorkton.

Orest loved to cook, fish, woodwork, play bingo, strawberry sundaes, homemade

donuts, treats, sweets, and visiting with family and friends. He will be remembered for

his humor and his contagious smile. He liked his company and enjoyed coffee or tea

and always something sweet to eat.

He will be dearly missed by his children Darcy (Corinna) Zastrizny of Melville; Darscilla

(Darren) Soanes of Yorkton; Darren (Wendy) Zastrizny of Theodore; grandchildren

Rayne and Ryame Soanes and great granddaughter Xzeanna Soanes of Yorkton

Also mourning his passing is his brother Wayne (Donna) Zastrizny of Theodore,

Sister-in-law Phyllis Zastrisny of Sheho; brother/sister-in-law Ervin & Laurie Hudyma of

Regina; Orest & Valerie Oshynko of the West Bend/Foam Lake area; Ken & Bev

Bachinsky of Sheho as well as many, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Judy Zastrizny; his parents Leon and Doris Zastrizny;

brother Edward Zastrisny; sister Myrtle Zastrizny; and his father/mother-in-law Oliver and Bella Hudyma.
