Corey Dyok

Obituary of Corey Dyok

In Loving Memory Of Corey Dyok

Corey Frank Dyok was born in the Watson Hospital on August 19th, 1976, to Walter and Beverly Dyok. He was the third born into the ABC family; his siblings are Alec, Brent, Donna and Erin.

Corey thrived on adventure and loved activities that got his adrenaline pumping. In his early years he took karate classes, played hockey, baseball, and ran track. He could “run like a deer” and assisted the Senior Boys 4x100m relay team to a Provincial Silver Medal in 1994, the same year he graduated from Quill Lake School.

Corey’s true passions were hunting and playing guitar. He favored bow hunting and would often shoot his bow at the target in the front yard to prepare for hunting season. He enjoyed restringing his bow and cleaning his guns. He spent hours practicing on his electric guitar and loved cranking up his amp to play a wide variety of songs by artists like Metallica and ACDC. He perfected the guitar solo to “Enter Sandman,” and his favorite song to play and sing was “More than Words” by Extreme. Corey had incredible attention to detail and committed 100% of his focus to his passions, which allowed him to master whatever he set his mind to.

After high school, Corey moved to Saskatoon where he worked at Future Shop. Corey had an uncanny ability to be strategically persuasive, leading him to great success in the sales world. He was promoted to Manager of the Car Audio Department at Future Shop in Calgary where he worked for two and a halfyears. Following his time in sales he worked in the Alberta oil fields for a couple years and then returned to Saskatoon to begin studies at the University of Saskatchewan for a semester where he was interested in becoming a pre-medical student. Corey eventually came back to the Quill Lake area to help on the family farm.

Corey faced ongoing mental health challenges throughout his adult life. In 2013, he was admitted to the Dube Center in Saskatoon and then transferred to the Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford where he worked in the woodshop building benches, tables, and chairs. He was eventually able to get an apartment in North Battleford and live independently. He would return home to the farm for short periods in the spring and fall to help in the field and be with family. He resided in North Battleford until his death.

Corey possessed a brilliant mind and was one of the most intellectually gifted individuals of his time. He enjoyed having one on one conversations with people he trusted about a wide array of topics: health, world events, music, hunting, the Bible, sports, and politics to name a few. For those who shared those moments with him, they were more than just conversations – they were glimpses into his heart, his mind, and the way he saw the world.

In his later years, Corey found peace and comfort in studying the Bible. His never-ending curiosity led him to develop a deep and thorough understanding of scripture. He dreamed of one day becoming a preacher.

Corey is survived by his mother Beverly; brother Alec (Lana) and niece and nephews AJ, Ksenia, and Cameron Dyok; brother Brent Dyok; sister Donna (Curtis) and nieces and nephew Polly, Walter, and Annie Seidle; sister Erin (Daniel) and niece and nephew Weston and Sophie Hemann. He was predeceased by his father Walter and nephew Nicholas Seidle.
