Celebrating The Life Of Joan Winand
Joan Maxine Winand, beloved mother, sister, aunty, & friend passed away at age 77 on April 21, 2025. Joan passed away in her home in Naicam, SK after a lifelong battle of many health issues.
Joan was born in Watson, SK December 31, 1947 to Douglas & Elsie Craig. She grew up on the family dairy farm outside Naicam with her 3 siblings: Barry, Dennis, and Pat.
Joan met Ken Winand at a dance in Spalding, SK and went on to marry him in 1968. After 10 years of living in Calgary, they moved back to the Winand family farm in Watson. They started a family in 1977 with the arrival of their son Jason, followed by Kimberly in 1979.
Joan loved farm life; planting & tending to the garden and helping with harvest. She was known for her expert canning, cooking, and cake making skills. Joan loved watching curling and volleyball. She had a passion for sewing & quilting right to the very end.
Joan trained in the early 90’s to become a special care aide. She found a profession she loved. Joan worked for many years at the St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, SK until her body could not keep up with the demands of the job.
Joan spent the last years of her life back in her home town surrounded by family & friends. She looked forward to Sundays playing cards, quilting & sewing, attending church, being a part of countless family gatherings, as well as coffee dates with friends.
Joan’s most cherished memories were Marean Lake with family & friends and spending time with her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed house boat holidays with family & friends, trips to Jasper to visit Kimberly, holidays to BC, and a cherished trip to the Maritimes with her brother Barry.
Joan will be reunited with her brothers Dennis & Barry, parents Elsie & Douglas, and multiple dear friends for a much anticipated marathon of card playing, coffee drinking, and laughs.
Joan leaves to cherish her memory her children: Jason, Kimberly and their father Ken; her sister Pat Peterson; numerous sister & brother in laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins, special friends as well as a community of loved ones far & wide.
