Celebrating The Life Of Joyce Rogowski
Jocelyn “Joyce” Nellie Newlove was born June 16, 1932, in Craik, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest child of George and Thurza Newlove.
After her father passed in 1947 Joyce, her sister, Doreen and her mother, Thurza, left the farm in Craik and moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
It was in Moose Jaw at Peacock Technical High School where she met the love of her life, Henry Rogowski. They dated for 5 years until 1953 when they married.
Joyce worked at The Royal Bank and Henry was employed at Cushing Millworks. While living in Moose Jaw they had 2 children, Gloria, born in 1954 and Eric, born in 1957.
In 1966 they decided to try their luck in the hotel business so they bought the Pearly Shells Hotel in Regina Beach. This is where their son Mark was born. They lived at Regina Beach until 1971.
From 1971 to 1973 they owned and operated the Rose Valley Hotel. After they sold the Rose Valley Hotel they purchased the hotel in Holdfast. They lived in Holdfast for many years. Joyce began working at the Holdfast Credit Union while Henry operated the hotel. They eventually built a new home there.
After selling the Holdfast Hotel they bought and operated the hotel in the neighbouring town of Dilke. This worked well for them because it was very close to a place they both loved, their cabin at Eldora Beach, of which they built in 1956.
Once they finished with the hotel business Joyce was employed by the Holdfast Credit Union until she retired.
Joyce and Henry loved to travel. They spent many winters in warm places like Hawaii, Mexico and Jamaica. They enjoyed their winter home in Mesa, Arizona, until they could no longer travel due to Henry’s health. It was then that they bought a house in Dilke. They spent their winters in Dilke and their summers at Eldora Beach.
Joyce remained in Dilke after Henry passed in 2006. In 2012, Joyce moved into an apartment in Regina. It was the same building where her sister, Doreen, lived and they spent many enjoyable years together there.
In December of 2020 Joyce was no longer able to live on her own and moved to the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson. She resided there until her passing.
Joyce is predeceased by: her loving husband Henry, and son Mark; parents, Thurza and George; brothers, John, George, Charles and Fred; sisters, Phyllis, Nellie, Anne and Doreen; and special cousin Stella.
Joyce leaves to mourn her passing: daughter Gloria, son-in-law Mitchell Maligranda - their children Joelle (Larry) Rudick, Dalice (Dwayne) Moffatt, Jeffrey (Ashley) Maligranda; son: Eric, daughter-in-law Wendy Rogowski, their children Jamie (Joey) Benson, Tyler (Shianne) Rogowski and Chantelle (Danny Schropp) Rogowski; great-grandchildren: Madison Rudick, Nolan and Mila Benson, Scarlett and Beckham Maligranda.
Joyce’s family would like to thank the staff at the Q.P.C.L. (Watson Lodge) for the wonderful care Joyce received as a resident there. It is greatly appreciated.
