Obituary of Larry Ukrainetz

In Loving Memory Of Larry Ukrainetz

Lawrence Ukrainetz, known to everyone as Larry or Uncle Larry, was born in the  Foam Lake Hospital on November 8, 1951 to Karl and Gena Ukrainetz. He attended Tuffnell School; graduating from Foam Lake Composite School. Being the youngest of 10 children, Larry was the apple of his sibling's eye. He was often found running around Tuffnell, chasing his brothers and playing with all of the neighbour kids.

After graduation, Larry worked as a carpenter at Shrader's until he took over the Tuffnell Post Office as Post Master from his mom, all while building his farm on the Ukrainetz Family homestead. He also worked for Lorne's Auction, J. Sons with his brother Hank, and Northome Comfort Windows. He officially retired from Northome in 2019 and then proudly farmed with Brett full time. Two of the most important things to him, were farming and his family.

On August 12", 1977, Larry married the love of his life, Betty Lutz. In 1980 they welcomed their first child, Becky. They soon realized they were going to outgrow the living quarters of the Tuffnell Post Office and began building their dream home on the farm. In 1982, they welcomed their second child, Shannon and months later they moved to the farm. Many days were spent with the girls landscaping their yard around the trees planted by Larry's brothers. In 1989, Larry and Betty excitedly welcomed their son Brett. With their family complete, he continued pouring his heart and soul into the yard, farm, and his family.

Larry was an active member of the community. Over the years he was part of the Foam Lake Rec Board, AG. Board, A.D.D. Board, Tuffnell Wheat Pool Committee, Knights of Columbus, KC Beach and Columbus Club, Tuffnell Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Tuffnell Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, and the Tuffnell Rec Centre. Larry's heart belonged in Tuffnell and he worked hard and volunteered for each of these community organizations. He spent many years as the town maintenance man and caretaker of the rink. He took a lot of pride in scheduling curling bonspiels, making ice and planning the Sport's Day. To this day, Larry never missed a Sport's Day.

Hosting was Larry's pastime, everyone was welcomed with food and a drink, and the coffee pot was always on at the Ukrainetz home.  As a young man, Larry hosted many of his friends at the Sugar Shack. As the years went by, the farm was home to many family gatherings and parties. Many memories were made around the kitchen table and in the shop.

Larry's favorite job was being Grandpa. He spent countless hours playing with his grandchildren, fixing toys and spoiling his grandkids with ice cream, wagon wheels and chocolate pudding. He will forever live on in the hearts of Jacey, Haley, Stephen, Riley, Jayla, Bethany and Owen. They are his greatest accomplishment.

Larry was predeceased by his: parents Karl and Gena; stepfather Steve Honeywich; mother and father-in-law Peter and Minnie Lutz; brothers - Walter, Ed, and Stan; sister Verna; brothers and sisters in law - Walter Fedak, Clarence and Dorothy Lutz, Syliva, Scottie and Isabelle Ukrainetz and niece Patricia Ukrainetz.

Larry will be remembered by his: wife Betty; children - Becky (Mike) Arno, Shannon (Patrick) Begrand, Brett (Alexis) Ukrainetz; his beloved grandchildren- Jacey and Haley Arno, Stephen and Bethany Begrand, Riley, Jayla and Owen Ukrainetz; siblings and in-law family along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and community members.
