Obituary of Irvin Laird

In Loving Memory Of Irvin Laird

Harold Irvin Laird was born on May 25, 1950, the youngest son of Joseph and Dorothy (Macnab) Laird. Irvin grew up on the familyfarm two miles east of Tuffnell with his brother, Jim, and numerous foster siblings. He attended Tuffnell, Dunrobin, and Foam LakeSchools. In the years that followed, he farmed and pursued an interest in trucking (hauling gravel and potash). Many winters were spent in Alberta hauling logs at Grande Prairie and heavy equipment and oil rigs around Lloydminster.

On August 9, 1980, Irvin married Karen Rudey and they made their home in Sheho, SK. They welcomed their son, Colin in 1982, followed by their daughters Erika in 1984, and Kayla in 1990. Irvin loved his family dearly and enjoyed sharing stories about them. Afterbecoming a father, Irvin decided he wanted to be closer to home and he began farming in the Tuffnell area. He also spent many yearsworking at Paproski Sand & Gravelling in Foam Lake and later hauling gravel from his own pit.

Irvin was a kind, gentle, and soft-spoken man who enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He always had time to stop for a cup ofcoffee, a chat, or to share a joke. Irvin was overjoyed at becoming a Grandpa and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. Hewould happily make the trip to Regina as often as he could to watch each of their activities. Irvin loved hunting, fishing, and going for evening drives to look for wildlife – traditions he passed on to his son, Colin, and grandsons. Irvin always had the ability to locate anysweet treats, cakes, cookies, or pies that were in the house. He believed ice cream was its own food group.

Over the years, Irvin was an active member of many committees and was always happy to volunteer at community events. You couldfind him working at the gate at the Sports Days, selling tickets in the beer gardens, tending the bar at weddings and other functions, or flipping burgers at the Tuffnell rink. Irvin was always willing to lend a hand whether that meant helping his neighbors get the crop off, driving someone to an appointment, doing an odd job, or dog-sitting for his kids.

Irvin was predeceased by his: parents Dorothy and Joseph; brother Jim; father-in-law Matt Rudey; mother-in-law Katie Rudey; uncles;aunts; cousins and friends. Irvin will be lovingly remembered by his: wife Karen; son Colin (Vicki) Laird; daughters Erika Laird and Kayla (Devin) Sakaluk; his grandchildren: Wyatt, Cohen and Jagger Laird and Asher, Greer and Easton Sakaluk; along with brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

Irvin’s calm demeanour, helping hand, and witty jokes will be missed by his family, and all who knew him.
