Obituary of Clifford Cottrell
In Loving Memory Of Clifford Cottrell
Clifford Roy Cottrell was born on August 27, 1932 to Floyd and Nora Cottrell of Radisson, Saskatchewan, the second of three children. He received his schooling in Radisson and went on to work alongside his father on the family farm. In the spring of 1948, the family moved to Quill Lake, where they continued farming on the Bill Sketchley farm.
Cliff was a dedicated and active member of the Quill Lake community. He had a lifelong passion for sports and took great joy in playing ball, curling, golfing, and hunting whenever he had the chance. He was often found at the Quill Lake Memorial Arena - coaching hockey and supporting young athletes, working as a caretaker to keep the facility running smoothly, or simply enjoying the action from the stands. His community involvement extended beyond sports; he was a proud Kinsmen member, municipal councillor, and arena chairman for decades. He was also involved in numerous local projects including the building of the current community center and even acted as the community exterminator to help keep Quill Lake rodent-free. Cliff had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Cliff married Phyliss Keim (Graham) on July 5, 1972 and along with becoming a husband, he also became a stepfather to Warren, Wendy, and Patricia. The family lived on the farm until 1978 before moving to town, where Cliff made his home on Drobot Street for more than 40 years. Cliff and Phyliss shared 33 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on March 5, 2006. Their bond was deep and enduring, and their years together were a true partnership.
In time, Cliff found love and companionship again with Kim Whitfield, whom he married on May 28, 2010. The little things mattered to Cliff and he took special care to ensure his love was felt. Every celebration received the sweetest card and/or thoughtful gift which were often kept a surprise. He and Kim enjoyed spending time together at home, with friends, or off on an adventure, like their Alaskan cruise. Summers at their seasonal lot at Leslie Beach were a particular favorite, where Cliff loved fishing, cruising in his golf cart and visiting with neighbors. Winters were filled with curling, volunteering, coffee downtown, time with the boys at Club 15, and movie dates at home, enjoying the classics with Kim. Cliff and Kim shared 15 years of marriage, marked by love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys together.
Cliff passed away on July 17, 2025, at the age of 92, after a long and fulfilling life. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his first wife, Phyliss. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kim; his stepchildren Warren (Janet) Keim, Wendy (Cameron) Kaye, and Patricia (Doug) Kyle; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Cliff will be forever remembered for his kind spirit, community dedication, and his willingness to show up for others.
