Obituary of Katy Bonar

In Loving Memory Of Katy Bonar

Katy Bonar entered into eternal rest on August 26, 2025 at the Wynyard Hospital at the age of 96 years.

Katy was born to Eli and Anastasia Holowaty on August 1, 1929 at the family homestead. She received her education at Malby School for grade one to eight and then had to quit school to help on the family farm.

Katy married Fred Bonar on June 19, 1949. They were blessed with six children. They farmed at the Bonar homeplace until their retirement in 1988. They moved to Foam Lake but would come back to spend the summer months at the farm for a few years.

Katy was a lifetime member of St. Onuphrey Church. The church and her faith were very important to her. She provided lodging and meals for the priests from Edmonton for close to 30 years while they served this parish. Katy was an active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Ladies Aide in Foam Lake for 10 years. She volunteered her time working with the Foam Lake perogy ladies, made Kolochi for funerals, and donated food for fundraiser potluck suppers. She enjoyed playing cards at the Seniors Centre and participated in bowling earlier in retirement.

Katy was predeceased by her: parents - Anastasia (1973) and Eli (1980); husband - Fred (2004); siblings - Metro (1997), Bill (2005), Nick (2006), Steve (2009), Peter (2012), John (2014), Mary (2020), Annie (2022), and Mike (2024).

Katy is survived by her: sons - Marvin (Joann), Douglas (Marian), David (Isabel); daughters - Joan (Bob), Vonnie (Glen), Carol (Mark). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Katy is also survived by her sister-in-law Lily Holowaty and numerous nieces and nephews.
