Celebrating The Life Of Glenn Reynolds

Obituary as written by Grandson Kyle Matlock

My Grandpa Glenn Allan Reynolds, was born on the family farm near Elfros, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1940, the eldest child of Allan and Stella Reynolds. He grew up on that farm with his sisters, my Auntie Lynne and Auntie Sheryl.

He began his schooling at Rosevale School. Later, he attended school in Elfros and graduated from high school in Foam Lake. As a boy and young man, Grandpa loved sports, especially fastball and hockey.

After high school, he worked at the Co-op in Elfros, then spent a year with a telephone construction company in Alberta before starting his long career as a proud employee of SaskPower.

In 1963, Grandpa married my Grandma Sylvia Thompson of Elfros. Together they raised two children — my Uncle Geoff and my mom Lisa. SaskPower moved his young family to several communities across the province, including Carnduff, Outlook, Saskatoon, but most of Grandpa’s career was spent in Ogema and then Wadena. He was an active member of both communities and made many lifelong friends.

In 1982, tragedy struck when Grandpa’s son, my Uncle Geoff, died in a car accident at just 18 years old.

In 1986, Grandpa married my Grandma Trudy Griffiths (née Anderson), mother of Lesley, Dean, and the late Lorelie Griffiths. Grandpa and Grandma Trudy shared many happy years together, enjoying curling, golfing, friends, dancing to old-time music, and the joy of becoming grandparents.

Every summer of Grandpa’s life, he spent at Leslie Beach. Then later he took his own family, first in a camping trailer, then a green bus camper and later to the family cabin.

Grandpa retired from SaskPower in the mid-1990s as Charge District Operator in Wadena. Retirement gave him more time to do the things he loved: hunting, fishing, golfing, and curling and spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed going downtown each morning for coffee with his group of friends, and he enjoyed watching professional sports on TV, especially baseball and the Blue Jays.

In 2011, Grandma Trudy passed away suddenly, another heartbreaking loss for our family.

Grandpa was known for his booming laugh, his love of sports and the outdoors, and for the good times he shared with his many friends. In later years he lived at Pleasant view Nursing Home, where he received kind and compassionate care for the past four and a half years.
