Obituary of Terry Quaal

In Loving Memory of Terry Quaal

Marion Theresa (Terry) Quaal was born to Theodore and Mary Anne (Robillard) Anderson in Rose Valley on August 11,1938.

Terry married Daniel Quaal on May 22, 1955. They were blessed with six children, Arryl, Darren, Dawn, Woody, Jody, and James. The family resided in Rose Valley, SK, until they moved to the Quaal Homestead farm in 1971.  Tradgically Daniel Quaal was killed in a snowmobile accident on December 15, 1976.  In 1981, the family moved back into Rose Valley. During this period of time, Terry worked very hard to provide for her young family.

At the 1984 Rose Valley Winter Festival, Terry and Irvin Braaten were chosen Citizens of the Year, of which was her greatest honour.

On June 16, 1984, Terry married Robert (Bob) Braaten of Birch Hills, SK. Terry and her two youngest sons moved to the farm north of Birch Hills.

Tragedy struck when Terry suffered a brain aneurysm and later a stroke in the fall of 1986. Doctors told her she would never walk again. However,  with her faith and determination she overcame those odds and proved them wrong. Unfortunately she was not able to return to work.

In 1991, Terry and Bob decided to go their separate ways. In 1993 Terry returned to school to obtain her Grade 10 certificate. She liked school so much she went on to achieve her Grade 12 in 1996.

In 1999, Terry felt a strong urge to move back to her roots in Rose Valley. In April of that year her family moved her home.

In 2015, Terry moved into the Rose Valley Manor. She was grateful for the excellent care provided and enjoyed many friendships, new and old. In 2020, with her health declining, Terry moved into Birchview Home in Birch Hills. It was another homecoming of sorts, as Terry had previously worked there, as a dietary aide, and was able to rekindle many old friendships. Terry, along with her family, were very grateful for the exceptional care and compassion shown by the staff. She resided there until her passing on October 05, 2025.

Terry loved to contribute to her community. She volunteered her time in many ways. To name a few, she was the President of the Rose Valley Legion Auxiliary, President of the Rose Valley Lutheran Church ELW, Vice-President of the Rose Valley Seniors Club, Teacher for the Lutheran Church Sunday School, President of Kilogram Kounter Club, Volunteer for Meals on Wheels, member of the Rose Valley Old Time Jug Band and the Birch Hills Jug Cat Band. Terry developed the Operation Cookie Bag - a Christmas treat for many community members, a program which is still going strong today.

Terry was predeceased by her: husband Dan; parents Teddy and Mary;  brothers- Donald and James; and sisters- Lena, Mabel, Ethel, Edith and Thelma.

Terry is survived by her: children- Arryl (Sharon), Darren (Jeanette), Dawn (Roderick), Woody (Beverly), Jody(Mishel), & James (Anna); grandchildren- Mahalia (Gerald), Chantalle, Dustin, Arianna, Alexis, Douglas, Andy, and Sadie; great grandchildren- Rylee, Jaxyn, Brooke, Moira, Genevieve, Florabelle, and many nieces and nephews.

Terry loved visiting with everyone, singing, baking, playing scrabble and cribbage. Her most cherished blessing was her family. Her inspiration and love of life came from knowing God and her never ending faith.
