Obituary of Vern Hanson
Celebrating The Life Of Vernon Hanson
Vernon Ray Hanson was born on March 14th, 1937 to Herman and Corrine (Hilstead) Hanson on the farm in the Rose Valley District. Vern was the 4th oldest of 13 children. Being one of the oldest, he left home at the age of 13 and started working for local farmers until he saved enough money to buy a team of horses. At the age of 15 he took his horses East to Ontario where he worked in the logging industry. He returned back to Saskatchewan where he met Marjorie. Vern married the love of his life, Marjorie Florence Currie on March 18th, 1961. Shortly after, they started their family, Debra, David, Donnella and 11 years later Darrell.
Vern worked at numerous job’s throughout his life; including ranching in Southern Saskatchewan, road construction throughout the province, building the Gardiner Dam, and Diamond Drilling throughout Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Mexico. Vern attempted to teach his sons, as well as sons in law, how to become diamond drillers but in the end it was a lost cause for most, except for Darrell, and his grandsons - Adam and Zachery who continue to work the drills. Vern retired from working the Drills when he was 62. All these years later, the boys still runs into guys, that worked with Vern somewhere along the road.
Vern is survived by his loving wife Marjorie of 64 years, and their four children:
- Debra (Alain) Quessy & children
- Kaylee (PJ) Plamondon and their children Austin & Kadence.
- Amy (Scott) Odelein and their children Paiton, Kabrie, Hudson, Rhonix
- Dana (Blake) Rath and children Sophie, Hadley, Harper, Skylar
- David (Sherri) Hanson and their children
- Brandi (Chad) Schmidt
- Brayell (Jesse) Dengler - and their children Taze, Haven, Tatum
- Brady (Jade) Hanson and their daughter Joeleigh
-Donella (John) Rachkewich and their children - Jesika, Adam, and Zachery
-Darrell (Jackie) Hanson and their son Briar
Vern is also survived by his siblings - Beverly Katchmar, Mervin (Mavis) Hanson, Mavis Hassel, Leslie Hanson, Elaine Stendie, Allan Hanson, Clayton Hanson, Duane Hanson, Colleen Leffler as well as many nieces. nephews and extended family.
Vern is predeceased by his: parents Herman and Corrine Hanson; brothers- Gerald Hanson and Merle Hanson; sister Durelle Ross; brothers-in-law- Marlow Stendie, Dave Hassel, Garry Ross, Jim Leffler; sisters-in-law- Francis Hanson, Mary Hanson, Darlene Hanson, Betty Hanson, Marj Hanson; nieces- Deanna Katchmar and Shanda Weisner; nephews- Lawney Leffler, Jason Hassel and his trusty companions - Suzy, Putchie, Monte.
We will always remember him as a man that cut a wide path wherever he went just like his favourite flowers that grow so wild, strong and free,
Dandelions and Stink Weed.... perfectly him.
