Celebrating The Life of Rodney Gudjonson

It is with great love and deep sadness that we celebrate the life of Rodney Gudjonson, also known as Gudje or Rod, who passed away peacefully on October 22 in Wynyard Hospital, surrounded by family and love.

Gudje was born on November 13, 1954 in Wynyard to Alice and Bryan Gudjonson. He grew up in Wynyard and through that time developed lifelong friendships and relationships. Rodney was most known for his sarcasm and wit, but to those close to him, he was known most for his fierce love for his family. The love he gave to his wife and children will be a legacy that they will carry on for him.

Family meant everything to Rod. He built a beautiful family with his beloved wife, Sandi Gudjonson. He was the most proud father to his three children, Robert Gudjonson, Lisa Gudjonson and Alison Gudnason (Chance Gudnason). His greatest accomplishment was being a great dad. He will be deeply missed by his: brother, Bill Gudjonson (Lynda); mother-in-law, Lena Wasylenka; in-law-family Len Wasylenka (Karen), Harold Wasylenka (Nona), Lillian Cunningham (Marvin), Walter Wasylenka (Susan), and sister-in-law, Leslie.  Numerous nieces and nephews will also miss him dearly as well as many close friends that he has made over the years. His parents Alice and Bryan Gudjonson, infant sister Rita Marie, and several cousins and friends predeceased him.

Rodney’s life was one filled with lots of laughs, adventures, beer and good times. He built a beautiful home with his wife and kids. He worked several jobs, but his favourite was working for Frank at Goodhall Memorials. In his off-season from work, Rod spent his time with his kids, building snow hills in the yard, telling jokes with loved ones and watching sports. His most cherished time of his life was when he was in his early 50’s when he had all of his kids at home and was in the best shape of his life. He was very proud to run in the marathon for diabetes in Hawaii.

Those who knew Gudje will remember him when they look at the stars, see a bird, drink a beer and sit around a fire.

All who loved Rodney are welcome to join us in celebrating his life and sharing memories with refreshments after the service at the Civic Centre.

Though Gudje may no longer be with us in body, his spirit, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.

Forever loved. Deeply missed. Never forgotten.
