Obituary of Ella Reynolds
In Loving Memory Of Ella Reynolds
Elin Reynolds was born on the farm north of Leslie in the Yellow Quill District on July 3, 1926 to Otto and Agustina Hrappsted. She passed away peacefully at Wynyard Golden Acres with her children by her side. Ella was the last remaining member of her family.
Ella received her education from Yellow Quill School and the Leslie High School. In 1945 she attended Saskatoon Normal School to become a teacher. Over the years Ella continued her education with correspondence classes, night classes, winter classes in Yorkton, intersession and summer school in Saskatoon. In 1976 Ella received her Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Ella’s first teaching position in 1946 was at Mount Hecla School with a class of 36 students ranging from Grade 1 to 11.Over Ella’s career of 32 years of teaching she also taught in Leslie, Yellow Quill, West Side, Foam Lake Elementary, Foam Lake High School and finished the last five years of her career in Elfros as principal. In her teaching career she lived through significant changes. Ella started her first years as a teacher travelling to school by horse and completing her career by travelling to school in a car with a remote start.
Ella married Frank Reynolds on May 1st, 1948, to this union four children were born; Calvert, Dale, Delores, and Richard.
While education was a huge part of Ella’s life, she was also active in the Leslie Curling Club and won her share of bonspiels in the neighbouring communities. She was a lifetime member of the Leslie Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Leslie United Church and Leslie Ladies Aid.
Ella was instrumental in the administration of the funds for the Pugh Bursary for 24 years.
In Ella’s retirement, she enjoyed golfing with her family and bowling with her sister and sisters in law.
In the summer, you could find Ella at her cabin at Chorney Beach, Fishing Lake or busy on the lawnmower, working in her garden or flowerbeds, on the farm. She kept busy sewing, knitting and watching curling in the winter months.
Ella’s last residence was Wynyard Golden Acres in Wynyard. She kept her personality, her sense of humour and an upbeat positive attitude. Ella enjoyed the music, the dancing, the visits from the school students and all activities at Golden Acres. We would like to thank the amazing staff at Wynyard Golden Acres for their compassionate care, kindness and friendship to Ella and her family.
