Obituary of Aileen Sabiston
In Loving Memory Of Aileen Sabiston
Winnonah “Aileen” Elizabeth Sabiston was born on March 19th, 1928, the youngest of seven children to parents Arthur and Lillie Walker of Colonsay, SK. She grew up in the Colonsay area on the family farm. Aileen received her education in Colonsay, attending school up to grade nine. She completed grades ten, eleven and twelve by correspondence. Aileen furthered her education to become a teacher in Saskatoon, SK at “Normal School”. Her first teaching position was at Birch Creek School, in the Wishart District, R.M. of Emerald, SK.
In 1949 on July 14th, Aileen married Glen Sabiston. Aileen and Glen raised three children: Wendel, Owen and Wanda, on their family farm. In 1988, Glen passed and Aileen moved into the town of Wishart, SK.
In Wishart, Aileen was very involved with the “Welcome Inn Senior Center”. She always welcomed company with her saying “Come on in if you are coming to see me, but if you are coming to see my house you should have called first.” Aileen always had homemade bread and buns, cookies and muffins ready to serve if someone popped in for a visit.
Aileen always remained 100% devoted to her family. She would attend as many football, volleyball, basketball, curling and even swimming lessons as possible. For many years, Aileen would take a bus and two planes to go and visit her grandchild in Alberta. She did this journey for as long as she was healthy enough to do so. Aileen was proud that she made it to all her grandchildren’s graduations; happy to share in their accomplishments.
After a fall in August 2022, Aileen moved into the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, SK where she remained until her passing.
Aileen was predeceased by her: husband Glen Sabiston in March of 1988; parents Arthur and Lillie Walker; and her five brothers and one sister.
Aileen leaves to mourn her: three children - Wendal (Regina) Sabiston, Owen (Brenda) Sabiston, and Wanda (Bob) Pickering; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren: grandson Dustin (Meghan) and great-grandchildren Casey, Koen, and Cooper Sabiston; granddaughter Rose (Curtis) and great-grandchildren William and Allison Graf; grandson Glendon (Crystal) and great-grandchildren Liam and Elyse Pickering; granddaughter Jade (Courtney) and great-grandchildren Everly, Theo Jordan and grandson Garryt Sabiston as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends - all who cherished her deeply.
