Kevin Ochitwa

Obituary of Kevin Ochitwa

In Loving Memory Of Kevin Ochitwa

It is with deep sadness that the family of Kevin Wayne Ochitwa announce his passing. Kevin, the eldest of three sons, was born on July 8, 1964, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Zane and Lorraine Ochitwa. In 1967, the family moved to Wadena where Kevin was raised and attended school, forming many close friendships that he cherished deeply throughout his life.

Kevin was a devoted son, a caring brother, an incredible uncle to his five nephews, who he was so proud of, and a loyal friend to many. Known affectionately by everyone as “Chin” and/or “Johnnie”, Kevin was someone you could always count on. He put the needs of others before his own and was happiest when those around him were taken care of.

During his high school years, Kevin worked at the Wadena Shop Rite. After graduation, he dedicated much of his working life to the auto and farm parts industry. Over the years, he worked at Burtons in Wadena and Yorkton, as well as at farm dealerships in Regina, Kinistino and Humboldt. Later, Kevin worked as a conductor with Canadian National Railway (CN) based in North Battleford until his untimely diagnosis. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.

Sports were an important part of Kevin’s life. He was a die hard fan of the Detroit Lions, Montreal Canadians and Toronto Blue Jays. Kevin was an avid golfer who looked forward to his annual golf trips with his buddies-trips filled with laughter, stories and treasured friendship. He played senior hockey with the Wadena Wildcats and curled in various curling leagues. Whether on the ice or on the golf course, Kevin valued camaraderie and the simple joy of time spent together.

Kevin had a love for music, especially the band U2 who he managed to see live multiple times. He also loved traveling, whether it was a music festival in California or the legendary Oktoberfest in Germany, he was always up for an adventure with his friends.

In April 2018, Kevin was diagnosed with Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration (CBGD). He faced his illness with remarkable strength, courage and quiet determination. Though he was taken far too soon, something that feels deeply unfair, his resilience and bravery through it all was an inspiration to those who stood beside him.

Kevin will be remembered for his great smile, stubborn spirit, generous heart, his unwavering loyalty, his quick wit and the genuine care and kindness he showed to his family and friends. He was truly one of a kind and will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Kevin was predeceased by his father, Zane (2025). He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by: his mother, Lorraine; his brothers, Shawn (Bernadine) and Derek (Lisa); and his nephews, Cale, Payton, Brock, Lucas and Joshua, as well as by his many friends and extended family.

The Ochitwa family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant View Care Home as well as Wadena Hospital for the care given to Kevin during the last seven years in long term care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kevin’s memory to the Wadena Re/max Curling Club, P.O. Box 157, Wadena, SK, S0A 4J0.

A celebration of Kevin's life will be held at 11 a.m. on June 6th, 2026 at the Wadena Community Legion Hall. As Kevin would not have wanted anyone to fuss over him, we ask that you honour his memory by wearing something U2/Blue Jays/Detroit Lions/Montreal Canadiens. Most of all, bring a smile on your face - just as he would have wanted - as we gather to share stories, laughter and love in celebration of his life.
