Celebrating The Life Of Jack Evans

John Edwin "Jack" Evans, age 85, a lifelong resident of Clair, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, with family by his side.

Jack was born on September 10, 1940 in Wadena, Saskatchewan, to Tom and Frances Evans. He spent his entire life in the Clair community that he loved so deeply.

On October 21, 1967, Jack married the love of his life, Marie Tweidt. Together they built a life rooted in family, farming, and community. Jack and Marie welcomed their daughter, Janice in 1969 and their son, Jason in 1975.

As a young man, Jack joined the workforce at the age of 16, helping construct grain elevator annexes. Before his marriage, he worked as a derrickman on oil rigs in northern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan during the winter months while farming in the summer. Jack also worked with a German company drilling freeze holes for the potash mines near Lanigan. These experiences reflected his strong work ethic, determination, and resourcefulness that continued to define him throughout his life.

Jack was a farmer turned buffalo rancher. He was one of the early farmers to diversify into bison, and he and his renowned bull, Mr. Big, helped put Clair Side Bison on the map, winning numerous awards for the quality of their animals in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. and across Canada.

Jack was known for his generous spirit, his love of wildlife, his dedication to giving back to his community, and his deep love for family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor (and maybe a little bit of an Irish temper) and truly enjoyed entertaining. Known as "Jackie" in his younger years, he built a life rooted in family, farming, friendship, and service to others. Jack attended Mac Mahon Country School and Park Villa Country School (Clair), where he was a proud member of the Clair Beef Club as a youngster. He later became the last surviving member of the original Clair ball team and he also talked about enjoying playing hockey when he grew up.

Jack was a founding member of the Wadena Ducks Unlimited committee, the Mallard Wildlife Federation, and the Saskatchewan Bison Association. He loved hunting and fishing. In recent years, Jack especially enjoyed spending time at Mike and Angela's dock at Fishing Lake.

Jack enjoyed life's simple pleasures - time with family, a day outdoors, good friends, and a drink or three. Those who knew him best will no doubt raise a glass in his memory and share a story or two of their own.

Time with family meant everything to Jack, and we were fortunate to share two special family reunions with him during his final summer. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and took great joy in celebrating their accomplishments.

Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marie; his daughter, Janice (Matthew) Bernstein, and their children, Alyssa, Reeve, and Carrie; his son, Jason (Heidi) Evans, and their children, Isabella and Molly; his brother, Don Evans and wife Doreen, along with their children, Roland, Rodney, and Naomi and their families; his sister, Gail Evans, and her daughters, Billie Jean and Meghan and their families; and his sister Isabelle’s family, Michelle, Maureen, Leah, Leann and Stephanie and their families as well as Douglas’s family; his sister Peggy’s daughter Isabelle and her family, as well as many extended family and lifelong friends.

Jack was predeceased by his: parents, Tom and Frances Evans; his sister, Isabelle Wolff, and her twin sister, who died in infancy; his sister, Peggy Coleman, and her husband, Lorne Coleman; his nephew, Douglas Wolff; his niece, Beverly Coleman; and his grandson, Blake Evans.

Jack will be remembered for the way he lived - generously, wholeheartedly, and always with a deep appreciation for the people, wildlife, and land around him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so fiercely, the community he helped build, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Jack will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
