Obituary of Peter Keyowski
In Loving Memory Of Pete Keyowski
Peter Keyowski was born on February 13, 1933 on the SW quarter of 15-30-14 to Andrew and Veronica Keyowski. Pete was the second member of a family of 10 children. He attended Birch Creek school and had many interesting stories to share about the school and the adventures that he and his classmates had. Pete said he wasn't as athletic as his older brother Nick, but he still liked to play ball and other activities. They entertained themselves as most kids did of that era.
But those two boys were joined at the hip. Pete and Nick did everything together. They even built their own playhouse out of wood and sod when they were very young. It was so sturdy and well built that it is still standing today.
And later, they both learned to play instruments and that was what they love to do. Peter played the stand-up base. In later years, they continued to play whenever time allowed. Jam sessions at Nick and Helen's house happened often and Pete would often be seen playing sitting down later in the night when he got tired. As time went on, they played less dances. Pete, Nick and John began to spend countless hours driving to local nursing homes to entertain the residents. They loved to bring joy to the people there and said it made them so happy to see them smile and clap along.
Pete also loved to play cards. Three spot was his favorite, and where he excelled. He loved to beat the brothers-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces really anyone who would play! Nick and Pete would usually be partners and they weren't afraid to give criticism to the other, when a mistake was made.
Anyone in and around the area knew Pete had a pool in his backyard. It was a place everyone loved to be. I'm sure there isn't a person or a kid around the area that didn't have a dip in Pete's pool. He loved that place. And so did we! It was a meeting place for so many people, young and old. During the summers on a hot sunny Sunday afternoon, behind his house at the pool, Pete would always bring out the hotdogs and the ice cream.
Family was always important to Pete. He usually spent special holidays with Nick and his family. He loved bringing something with him for the kids. Anytime he came over to Nick and Helen's, he always brought treats for the kids. And at Christmas, he always gave every kid something from him. Pete would smile from ear to ear and hand out some money to every child there. He loved spending time with family and we loved having him around. And in his later days, he would ride his golf cart down to Chris's deck precisely at 3 P.M. every afternoon and have his ice cream treat.
Pete was a born farmer. He loved everything about farming. Pete was a carpenter. He shared his carpentry skills whenever he could, and was always willing to help family and friends. Pete loved gardening. He loved his fruit trees. Pete kept bees and was most famous for his PK honey. He loved to share everything he had with those around him. Many people in the area would have an apple tree in their backyard grafted by Pete with many types of apples! He shared his honey, his strawberries, his apples, his backyard, and anything he could with those he loved. There are many things to remember about our uncle Pete, but his kindness, genuine smile, and generosity will always shine out.
Pete leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Stella Halldorson, Anne Yasinowski (Russell), Hazel Kiernicki and Lillian Labas (Jim) and his sisters-in-law, Helen Keyowski and Margaret Keyowski as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Peter was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Veronica Keyowski; his brothers John, Nick and Mike (stillborn); his sisters Hazel (one week) and Victoria (died at two months); brothers-in-law Calvin Halldorson, Michael Kiernieki and George Lazurko; nephew Carl Halldorson; and niece Karen Wishlow.
