Obituary of Lillian Tarnowetzki
In Loving Memory Of Lillian Tarnowetzki
Lillian Antonia Tarnowetzki (nee Magera) entered into eternal rest in the Foam Lake Jubilee Home on May 6, 2026 at the age of 97 years. Lily was born January 30, 1929, to John and Mary Magera on the family farm north of Tuffnell. She attended Echo Lake School, where she completed her Grade Eight education. Being the oldest of five daughters in the family, Lily had to quit school to help her parents on the farm. She enjoyed the wide-open spaces and fresh air.
In 1948, Lily met and married Matt Tarnowetzki. They settled on the farm south of Tuffnell, where they raised a family of two children, son John and daughter Valerie.
In the fall of 1982, they moved to Foam Lake but they continued to help and advise their son John and his wife Brenda on the family farm.
Matt and Lily were members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Sheho South Church for many years. Lily belonged to the Ladies Aid, acting first as president, then treasurer, and lastly secretary. In Foam Lake, they joined Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Lily was a member there until her passing. She always sang in the church choirs.
Lily liked to embroider and do other handicrafts. She loved to put jigsaw puzzles together and frame them for display. After her husband Matt passed away, Lily learned to do Ukrainian cross-stitch and enjoyed it very much. Lily made many trips to visit her daughter Valerie in Prince Albert. There Lily often attended the Winter Festival. She especially loved the fiddle music. Lily’s three grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Lily was predeceased by her father John in 1985, husband Matt in 1994, mother Mary in 1996, sister Elizabeth Tarnowetski in 2009, brother-in-law Walter Tarnowetski in 2016, sister Rose Kolke in 2018, son-in-law Stan Mamczasz in 2019, brother-in-law Marvin Kolke in 2023, and daughter Valerie Mamczasz in 2024.
Lily leaves to cherish her memory: her son John (Brenda) Tarnowetzki of Tuffnell, grandchildren Rune Tarnowetzki, Jonas Tarnowetzki, and Robin Tarnowetzki and husband (Michael Thomas). She also leaves to mourn: her sisters Joan (Gary) Roy of Carlyle and Deanna (Willie) Derkach of Red Deer as well as many nephews, nieces and “honorary granddaughter” Karen (Neskar) Ross.
