Obituary of Rose Haskey

In Loving Memory Of Rose Haskey
née Korytniak

It is with deep sadness that the family of Rose Darlene Haskey announces her passing on May 30, 2026 in Wadena, Saskatchewan. Rose was born on July 15, 1947, in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, and lived a life marked by warmth, hard work, and an enduring devotion to her family.

Rose spent her early years in Rose Valley before moving with her mother and older sister to Wadena in the early 1950s. She completed her schooling in Wadena, graduating in 1965, and went on to work as a switchboard operator for SaskTel. She also spent many cherished years working at the Wadena Bakery, where her warmth and dedication left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Rose married John Haskey, and together they built a life on the farm, raising their three children — Ryan, Derek, and Bobbi-jo. Farm life was not without its challenges, but Rose faced them with quiet strength, always supported by her mother close at hand. Following the passing of John's stepmother, Rose lovingly assumed the role of family matriarch, hosting gatherings that became the heart of the family's traditions. Her Ukrainian dishes were legendary, and the table she set was always a place where stories were shared, and laughter rang out. She proudly welcomed relatives from Ukraine on several occasions, keeping those cultural roots alive.

Rose's family was her greatest joy. She welcomed with open arms those who joined through marriage — Natasha, Ryan's wife, and Mike, Bobbi-jo's husband — and embraced them fully as her own. But it was her two grandchildren, Brycen and Aftyn, who lit up her world in a way unlike any other. Known to them simply as "Baba," Rose treasured every moment spent with them, and they were her pride and joy until the very end.

Rose is survived by her: children Ryan (Natasha), Derek, and Bobbi-jo (Mike) Galbraith; and  beloved grandchildren Brycen Galbraith and Aftyn Galbraith. She is also survived by her sister and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Rose will be remembered as a woman of great heart — a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished Baba, and a steadfast friend, sitting around her kitchen table, her laughter, and the warmth of her welcome will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

May she rest in peace.
