Celebrating The Life Of Joseph Pearson

Joseph (Joe) Campbell Pearson was born at Kelvington Hospital on August 3, 1952 to Winnifred and Lawrence Pearson.  Joseph was the middle child with one older sister Winnifred and younger brother Murray.  Joseph went to school until Grade 8 in Nut Mountain and then to Kelvington High School where he completed his Grade 12.

Joe married Wendy Standish on August 4, 1972 and they first lived in Nut Mountain with no running water, the toilet outside and a wood stove.  That winter they moved into Kelvington where they had heat and water.  They then moved to their home quarter in January of 1976 where they still reside.  Joseph and Wendy were blessed with three children Shannon Joelle born December 29, 1972, Ryan Glenn born June 13, 1976 and Connie Rae born April 3, 1982.

Joe learned his work ethics from his dad and started working on the farm at a young age. He had his first quota book when he was sixteen and he was very proud of that. He later worked at the elevator in Nut Mountain, Miner’s Construction and as a rural telephone linesman. He had the opportunity to go full-time with SaskTel but his passion was on the farm.  He and his brother Murray started farming together.  Later they divided as their families grew.  Farming is the backbone of the family and his true love.

Joe had a deep love for the outdoors; hunting, fishing and building a good bonfire for his family to sit around.  Joe spent time guiding for big game, he and his buddies also enjoyed spending time at the Windy Lake hunting cabin.  Sports played a significant role throughout Joe’s life. He was an accomplished curler who competed in the Northern Finals, and he was equally passionate about baseball. He played with the Bluebirds and later found great pride in coaching a U11 team to a provincial championship.

Later in life, horses became a hobby. Joe enjoyed taking his grandchildren and anyone else’s children on the horse or for a sleigh ride. His dream was to build a white fence, ranch style gate and barn.  He accomplished these things and was so proud of his barn yard. Another great joy of Joe’s was his dog Frankie, he would often be found in the truck with him riding shotgun.

Joe loved his grandchildren dearly and was at all their births.  He followed them around attending their activities and sports. He found a lot of joy in taking them fishing, hunting and driving the boat.

Joe loved playing cards, poker with his buddies, Kaiser and every morning he played two games of rummy with Wendy. They kept a tally and Joe was currently in the lead which he would love to brag about. He loved the annual Christmas tree hunt, visiting with family and friends over a morning coffee or a happy hour drink.  He loved good country music and a chance to two step or jive. In his later years, he traveled extensively with family and friends.  He lived life large and often loud!

Joseph is survived by his: wife Wendy and their children Shannon (David) Lindholm, Ryan Pearson (Stephanie Collins), Connie Rae  (Justin) Parenteau and his 6 grandchildren Jayden (Solomon) Dreger, Chase, Luke, Danica, Boston, Paxton and his dog Frankie.

Joseph was predeceased by his: parents Lawrence and Winnifred; his in-laws Miles and Connie Standish, as well as numerous other relatives and two special past employees Dale Bonsan and James Yakimoski.
