Obituary
In Loving Memory of Kenneth Oie Kenneth Arne Oie was born on August 17, 1950 in Kelvington Sk to Emil and Christine (Sigurdsen) Oie. Kenny grew up on the Sigurdsen homestead, where the family farmed. Ken had one sibling Ben. Growing up he attended Heatherbank and St. Eutrope country schools in the Lintlaw district and then Lintlaw Elementary School in Lintlaw, Sk. He completed grade 9, was a great speller and was proud of his accomplishment. At a very young age Kenny was diagnosed with epilepsy, and no matter what his limitations were, it never got him down and he was determined to make the best of it, with a smile on his face. Kenny helped out on the farm, driving tractors and hauling grain with the hopper box as well as many different jobs, whether big or small, he was a part of the team, working alongside his brother Benny. Many, many hours were spent riding together while Ben was logging up in the bush. It was there that Kenny developed a dislike for soup, having eaten it way too much. It was always a joke when he was asked if he wanted some soup - he’d be sure to tell you his opinion of that ! In 1982, after the passing of his dad, he and his mother remained on the farm until 1985 when they moved into Wadena. Here he was very social and made himself a little business mowing lawns in summer and shovelling snow in winter for many people and businesses around town. He pushed his mower many many miles from job to job. Melanie can remember the very detailed notebooks he kept of every single job he had done. Kenny made a few very special friends who thought the world of him and vice versa. He ran everywhere he went, not walked, whistling the whole way. His quick trips uptown to get the mail were often quite lengthy as he stopped to talk to many along the way. He had time for everyone. He liked to be helpful and his assistance was much appreciated. In his younger years Kenny enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling and doing latch hook kits. He had strong faith in the lord and quite often could be heard in church singing over everyone. His mom passed in 1997, and he was able to stay in the house in Wadena with a live-in caretaker for awhile, then lived with Ben and Pat for awhile and from there into a couple private care homes for little periods of time, which enabled him to be independent. In 2002, Kenny moved into the Red Deer Nursing Home in Porcupine Plain, SK. He was very fortunate to be able to work at the POP Shop (Porcupine Opportunities Program) for quite a few years and was dedicated and proud of his job. He liked to talk about his job and what he did at work, was always topic of conversation. He was disappointed when his health started to fail him and he required more assistance with day to day living and could no longer go to the shop. In June, 2021 we were able to get Kenny moved into Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena Sk. No matter where Kenny resided, he was liked by all the staff, always being referred to as a sweet pleasant man. He left a lasting impression on everyone who met him. Kenny was the best son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle and friend that anyone could ever ask for. He never ever complained about anything or had a mean bone in his body. He was a very gentle soul with a kind and loving heart. He was a perfect example for everyone to follow.Kenny passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022 surrounded by his family at the Pleasant View Care Home, Wadena Sk.
