Obituary of Gladys Byblow

In Loving Memory of Gladys Byblow

Gladys Byblow (Rodych) of Wynyard, SK, and formerly of Tuffnell, SK, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022. She is survived by her sons Andrew, Nestor (Irma), and daughter, Christina (Allan). She is also survived by her five grandsons; Adam (Denise) Byblow, Hudson Byblow, Kevin (Eva) Hoffman, Ryan Hoffman, Brennan (Amanda) Hoffman, and five great-grandchildren; Daxton, Emmeri, and Tyce Byblow, and Amber and Brielle Hoffman. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Rodych, Olga Achtemichuk, Sonya Pawliw, Jean (Ed) Spilak, and (Eileen) Byblow, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was born on a farm in the Beckenham district near Parkerview SK on October 3rd, 1929, the youngest of ten children of Alex and Justina Rodych. She attended Runnymeade School which was in the area. When she was a young girl, she often babysat her nieces and nephews, worked for a short time at a drycleaners in Winnipeg while staying with her sister Mary and also worked in a café in Sheho where on one occasion she met our dad, Peter, who became the love of her life. After she married Peter Byblow on August 29th, 1948, they made their first home on a farm nine miles south of Tuffnell, where they resided for nine years. Their first son Andrew was born in 1950 and Nestor was born in 1951. In 1957, they decided to move to Tuffnell so they would be closer to town and to a school. Also in 1957, their daughter Christina was born and the family was complete. Mom dearly loved her family and in her own gentle and quiet way, she showed us family values that we treasure today. Mom was a hard worker making sure that the family always had the necessities. She was always willing to roll up her sleeves and do whatever was necessary around the farm and in the house. Mom enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening and baking. She had a loving heart and always placed her family ahead of herself and for that we will always be grateful. We will miss her warm and tight hugs. Farm life was difficult in those years but despite all the challenges, her love prevailed. After retiring from farming, mom and dad lived in several places including Canora, Wynyard, Lanigan and back to Wynyard where they lived at Maple Grove Retirement Home. After dad was hospitalized in December of 2017, mom and dad moving to Golden Acres Lodge was the next step in their retirement. Mom enjoyed living in Wynyard as they knew so many people in the community.
