Donations may be made in Anne's memory to Holar - St.Demetrius Cemetery Our Mom, Anne (Pidkowich) Syrota passed away peacefully on November 21, 2012 at Wynyard Hospital with her children at her side. She was born in the Krasne District on June 14, 1930 and was the youngest child of John and Mary Pidkowich. She took her education at Halicz School. Mom moved to Winnipeg, where her sister Helen lived, to work at the CPR?Hotel in the kitchen. On October 28, 1947, she married the love of her life Nestor Syrota after a brief courtship. They had six children. When we were young, quite often we would ask Mom what would you do if we married someone at 17? her reply was always if you found someone like Dad, you could marry him tomorrow . Mom and Dad lived on the family farm with his parents, Nicholas and Anna, and brother Donnie. Mom and Dads home was a common gathering place for all relatives and friends. The door was always open for coffee, lunch or a meal. Many nieces, nephews and grandchildren over the summers would come for holidays or summer catechism. Growing up we remember coming home from school to the smell of fresh baked bread, buns, or doughnuts. Often we were told not to sit on the bed because Mom had buns rising or macaroni drying or she would tell us dont go in the bedroom, I have a wedding cake there . Mom decorated many wedding cakes over the years and stayed up late, making sure they were perfect. In the late 1970s Mom decided to go to work outside of the home as a cook at the Tri-R Restaurant in Foam Lake and made many long lasting friends. Moms life was filled with love of company, cooking, baking and making everyone feel welcome. Mom was a member of the Foam Lake Community Hall Perogy Ladies, a member of the UCWL?in Foam Lake and a lifelong member of the Holar Ladies Aide. With her great friends and sisters-in-law in the Holar District they organized many church functions and held many special events at Holar Hall. She participated in the Veselka Choir, faithfully sang in the church choir in Holar and Foam Lake. Mom had a deep respect for her church and God. Family was everything to her, she enjoyed having her children and grandchildren come to visit and as they married and their families grew, she enjoyed the little ones. She always felt so fortunate to have her six children live close by.Mom loved to go to the Syrota and Pidkowich Family Reunions and participate in all activities. We were very fortunate, as a family, to celebrate this past Christmas with Mom/Baba and all 52 of us present...she was in her glory. Mom was predeceased by her husband Nestor Syrota, her parents John and Mary Pidkowich, granddaughter Mary, sister Helen (John Poturnak), brothers Frank, Bill (Rose) Pidkowich; Mike (Victoria)?Pidkowich; Joe Pidkowich. She will be sadly missed and her memory will always be cherished by her six children:?Barry (Diane)?Syrota, grandchildren Roberta Stadnyk & Greg Gudjonson, Kelsey &?Rylan and Tyler; Linda (Jason)?Foulston, Alexandra, Teagan and Ryley, John and Mandy; Eugenia (Bob) Johnson, grandchildren Tatum (Brad) Luey, Charlotte and Samuel, Melissa (Greg)?Beaudoin, Grace, Vivian,?Nathan; Tayler Johnson &?Kruze Halyk; Neil (Kathy) Syrota, grandchildren Nicole and Mallory (Greg)?Lawrence, Zane &?Jacob; Elizabeth (Dave) Collison, Ashley &?Lloyd Bullerwell; Brooke Collison &?Tyler Parry &?Harli; Jessica Collison &?Kelsey Malisheski; Bernadette (Merlyn)?Tomyn, Dickson,?Anne, Jill; Maria (Lyle)?Leach, Derek, Joey Leach &?Karlee Eldred; sisters-in-law Alice Pidkowich (Joe) and Mary Syrota (Donnie) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is loved and will be missed by all. When Dad passed away in 1991, Mom was heartbroken. This past Tuesday, November 20, when Mom wasnt feeling good she said with a bit of excitement in her voice, I think today is the day I will see your Dad, you know its been a long time.
