Obituary
Funeral Service: Saturday, October 25, 2014 11:00 A.M. Narfason's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium Wadena, Saskatchewan Interment to follow at the Wadena Cemetery Leonard Lloyd Ziola was born on June 10, 1930 on the family farm north of Margo to parents Leo and Lucy Ziola. He attended Robertson School and later attended high school in Margo, while boarding there. On October 26, 1952, he married Wanda Markowski, daughter of Julius and Anna Markowski of the Lintlaw district at St. Peter's Lutheran Country Church. As newlyweds, they moved to the Chris Berg farm where they began their lives together. They raised a family of 2 sons - Daniel and Stuart and 2 daughters - Carmen and Maureen. Leonard believed in hard work and was proud to be a farmer. He loved the changing seasons, but especially spring when the world would renew itself. He had a love of the land. He loved the sense of satisfaction that planting a crop, watching it grow and a successful harvest brought. He began his farming career with his father and brothers and went on to farm with his own sons and eventually his Grandsons. Of this he was very proud. In 1983, Leonard and Wanda retired from the family farm and moved to Wadena where they began a new chapter in their lives. They took advantage of a new found freedom and travelled to many wonderful places around the world including favourites Australia, Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands and many other locations in Canada, U.S. and Mexico. Leonard loved seeing new places, learning about them, and above all, meeting new people. He enjoyed sharing stories of where they had been and what they had seen in their travels. Leonard was an outdoorsman. As a hunter, he looked forward to moose season each fall and he enjoyed the camaraderie of the crew at Hunter's Haven as much as the actual hunting. He also enjoyed the beauty of the forest and the peacefulness and serenity he found in nature at the hunting shack. He spent many hours there all through the year, often alone. He also was an avid fisherman. He eagerly looked forward to yearly ice fishing trips to Snow Lake, MB for many years and also to the yearly camping and trout fishing trips to Reed Lake and then later to Rocky Lake that he and Wanda would take. He loved the beauty of the northern lakes and the rugged landscapes. Music was also a big part of Leonard's life. While he appreciated most types of music, he was most fond of a good country song. He also enjoyed listening to a good pianist and had always wished he had been able to play better himself. He enjoyed spinning Wanda around the dance floor to favourite old time' tunes as well. He was a proud father and even prouder Grandfather. He often boasted of his Grandchildren's accomplishments - large and small. He was thrilled when Great-Grandchildren began to arrive, " The circle of life!", he would say. Left to cherish Leonard's memory is his wife of nearly 62 years, Wanda and children: Danny (Donna), Stuart (Audrey), Carmen Slugoski (Dale), Maureen McClymont. Grandchildren: Jordon (Tammy) Slugoski, Owen, Connor & Reid; Amber (Aron) Hershmiller, Peyton & Rylee; Taralene Ziola; Kendra (Tony) Smith, Elijah & Ezekiel; Bryce Slugoski; Lindsay (Jeffrey) Austman; Garrett Ziola (Jeannette Witowski); Jaime (Matt) Stobbs, Nolan & Zoe; Trenton Ziola (Angie Malishewski), Kellan; Clarke Ziola (Giselle Perrot); Jill McClymont (Jason Lajambe), Ries & Grady; Denise McClymont. He is also survived by brother Orval (Lillian) Ziola and sisters: Gloria Robbins and Lorna Heistad as well as brothers-in-law: Otto Markowski (Marilyn), and Alex Markowski and sisters in law: Thelma Markowski, Lydia Novak, Martha Young and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Lucy Ziola, sister Eva, brother Hugh; parents in law Julius and Anna Markowski and son-in-law Miles McClymont as well as numerous extended family. He will remain forever in our hearts. Goodbyes are not forever; Goodbyes are not the end; They simply mean I'll miss you; Until we meet again.
