Obituary
Nowell Arthur Stables passed away in Wadena at the Pleasant View Care Home on May 25, 2019 after a lengthy illness, he was 88. Nowell was born in May of 1931 in Winnipeg, MB to proud parents, James and Kathleen (nee Morton). He started his academic life in Winnipeg at St John’s – Ravenscourt University Preparatory School. At the start of World War II, his father James moved the family so he could help with the Canadian effort during WWII. Nowell attended St. Michael’s University School in Victoria. Shortly after World War II the family relocated to Regina where Nowell attended Campion Collegiate High School. Following graduation Nowell enrolled into the Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of Saskatchewan where he graduated and later gained his accreditation, in 1956, as a Chartered Accountant. Nowell’s career began working for Tidewater/Marathon oil company. After a few years he joined the University of Regina as Assistant Registrar and later became Registrar at the University where he worked until retirement. Nowell’s family life began in 1958 when he married Anne Lois Biegler in Regina at the Holy Rosary Cathedral. Nowell and Anne made their life in Regina where they built their home and raised their two sons; Rob and Doug. Looking for a summer getaway they built a cabin at Fishing Lake, in the early 80’s, where they would spend their summers and all available time. Nowell is survived by his wife Anne, his two sons, Robert and Douglas, daughter in laws, Patty and Lucy, his six grandchildren; Aurora (Ian), Anthony, Christian (Alesha), Dante (Julia), Jennifer, and Suzanne, great grandchild Michael and his brother in-law Peter Koppe and his family. He is predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Koppe and his parents. Nowell made friends and impacted everyone’s lives he met but the greatest impact he made were on his grandchildren who will carry his legacy and cherish his life. A memorial will take place on June 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Regina with a luncheon to follow in the Cathedral basement. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nowell’s life. Nowell will be buried in a private ceremony later in the year. Nowell had a love for dogs and to that end, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to CC RezQs Regina at 3409- 21st Ave Regina, Saskatchewan S4S 0T8; a not for profit dog rescue organization in Regina.
