Obituary
Myrna Margaret Rose Ake was born July 29, 1940 to Ivy and John Ake at Wadena. The Ake family farmed south of Nut Mountain, west of Lintlaw, where they still do today. Myrna went to elementary school at Glen Gariff and high school in Nut Mountain. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in Weyburn. She moved to North Battleford for her first nursing job, in the psychiatric ward of a hospital. It was in North Battleford that she met and married her life partner Patrick Breckenridge and her first daughter Beverly was born. Moving was to be a part of her life for a number of years. Patrick’s career with CN took the family to Saskatoon where she had her second daughter Lynn. Next was Edmonton, and then Toronto where they lived from 1970 to 2003. During that time Myrna raised her children, worked as a nurse, volunteered, and developed her skill and lifelong interest in sport shooting. She travelled to compete in that sport all over Canada and the US, made many dear friends, won many accolades, and instructed many people in gun handling safety. She also enjoyed gardening, music, cooking, theatre and movies as well as curling and football. She was an avid outdoors woman and spent many hours with her family camping, sailing, fishing, swimming and walking walking walking. Most of all she was a dedicated wife and mother. Patrick’s stroke in 1998 meant that Myrna then focused her energy on his rehabilitation, which was remarkable. She worked hard to raise awareness and funds for the cause of Aphasia, encouraging Patrick and her daughters to do so as well. In 2003 they moved back to Lintlaw, and then to an acreage south of Kelvington. Myrna worked at the Co-op in Lintlaw and then in Kelvington, until finally retiring in 2011. After that, together Patrick and Myrna continued to enjoy the beautiful landscape, watching the birds and other wildlife, and spending time with family and friends. Myrna was predeceased by her sister Doreen, both of her parents, sister Mae Banadyga, brother Bob and nephew Brian Banadyga. She is survived by husband Patrick, brother Gordon Ake (Georgina) of Kelvington, daughters Beverly (Dave Rosencrans) of Seattle Washington, Lynn (Sokratis Vandikas) of Keswick Ontario, granddaughter Beatrice and grandson Alekos, as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews, Fidgets the cat and Popeye the dog. We will all miss Myrna’s boundless energy, determination and take-no-prisoners sense of humor, as well as her loving kindness. May she Rest In Peace.
