Hazel Doreen Brown was born on October 27, 1933 in Kelvington, Saskatchewan to Robert and Caroline Brown. Doreen, grew up in the Kelvington area and attended school until grade 9 in Kelvington. Doreen “Tootie” moved to Regina where she joined the workforce. In Regina she worked in a grocery store for a while and then worked for the Red Cross doing transportation. This job at the Red Cross turned into the career that she enjoyed for 37 years. Tootie met her husband, Harold Minky, while she was working in Regina. After a long courtship they got married in Regina and relocated to Kelvington. Tootie was very involved in the Kelvington community especially with The Evening Circle, The North Country Women, and The Volunteer Transit Bus. Due to her failing health, Tootie required more assistance for daily living and moved to Foam Lake, where she lived at The Wander Inn assisted living home. After about a year, her level of care increased and she moved to Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home for 2 years. Four years ago, Tootie came back home to Kelvington, where she resided at the Kelvindell Lodge, until her passing on December 1, 2019. She is survived by her three sisters Patty (Wally) Carbno of Saskatoon, SK and family; Verna Murray and family; and Margaret Minky and family.
