Obituary
There will be a service held at a later date Due to COVID-19 On Friday, October 16th, the town of Wynyard lost a brilliant, shining light. The many souls illuminated by Shirley Elaine Greenshields, remain in shocking darkness over this sudden and tragic loss. Elaine came to this world on December 13th, 1939 and has spent the last 81 years in the relentless pursuit of the things she loved and treasured: her family, friends and the many communities she has served over the years. Wynyard, of course, had a special place in her heart and her tireless efforts as Treasurer for Golden Acres Auxiliary and the WiFi project were a testament to her love, compassion and empathy for the vulnerable in her community. She was Prairie Proud and after many adventures away, Elaine returned to her hometown, Wynyard, and will forever rest in the peaceful embrace of its prairie spirit. Elaine was an exemplary scholar during her academic years and although she could well have chased any professional dream imaginable, she chose to become, first and foremost, a loving wife and mother. And if that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, her professional life as a teacher was spent enriching and touching the lives of her many cherished students. She loved to laugh. She loved music and dancing. And when she wasn’t nurturing her beautiful garden, Elaine could be found playing her favourite card game, Bridge. In fact, Elaine was the local Bridge Guru that all sought out in their moments of game confusion. Elaine always had an answer grounded in logic and equity and brought, above all things, love and order to any situation. To live with Elaine, was to exist in impeccable comfort and purity. She gave meaning to unconditional love and her embrace was all one needed to heal the deepest of wounds. The wound that exists in her absence will take time to heal but will also, without exception, render a scar of unprecedented beauty - a reminder of her mortal magic to carry us through until we embrace her again for an eternity. The past several months have been taxing on the entire planet and due to current, unavoidable circumstances, we will not be gathering to celebrate the life of this beloved, remarkable woman. However, please stay tuned for a future announcement, when we will call upon those who loved our mother, wife and friend to celebrate the glory of this extraordinary human. Until then, we thank all who helped, stood by and sent their love and best wishes in every way possible. You have made this time of unimaginable pain and sorrow much easier to bear and we are grateful. Until we celebrate together, please stay healthy and safe and reach out today to those you love and cherish – tomorrow is never promised… Shirley Elaine Greenshields - December 13th, 1939 – October 16th ,2020 R.I.P.
