Obituary
Sandra Mae Ostergard (née Albertsen) Sandra Mae Ostergard (née Albertsen) died peacefully at Wynyard Hospital on October 28 after a short time with cancer. Sandra was born on May 25, 1952 in New Westminster, British Columbia to Haldor and Phyllis Albertsen. She grew up in Surrey with her older sisters Karen and Vicki, completing her Grade 12 at Princess Margaret Secondary School. After graduating, Sandra worked at a cannery with her mom before moving to Cumberland, BC with her former spouse Arne and spent several years working at the family tree nursery. They had two children Kirsten (1981) and Matt (1986). Sandra was a loving mother who made a good home for her children. Her kids remember the great meals she made, all the activities she took them to, summers swimming at Comox Lake and the joy she brought to their lives with little touches like hand-sewn Halloween costumes each year. Sandra was a gentle person who lived her life quietly, and loved to make little surprises or do things for other people. She was committed to volunteering, and especially enjoyed doing so at the Cumberland Legion where she had many friends (Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28). Sandra was fond of animals and had several beloved pets throughout her life. In 2000, Sandra met her soulmate Cliff Allen. Cliff was an outgoing and fun electrician who took her on trips and was a romantic, loving partner. He had an easygoing and gregarious personality and brought out the best in Sandra, always making her laugh and showering her with love. Sandra and Cliff enjoyed playing games and cards. They took vacations to Mexico, Colombia, and Las Vegas where they made many special memories together. In 2009, the two moved from Cumberland to Foam Lake where they lived happily until Cliff passed away after an illness in 2015. Sandra was predeceased by her parents Phyllis and Haldor, her sisters Karen and Vicki, and her partner Cliff. She leaves behind countless memories to help celebrate her life. Sandra is survived by her daughter Kirsten (Adrian) of Montreal, QC and son Matt (Adrienne) of Toronto, ON as well her step-son Kyle (Andrea) of Westbank, BC; step-son Patrick (Clarissa) of Campbell River, BC; and step-daughter Alyce of Williams Lake, BC, whom she loved dearly, and her grandchildren on Cliff’s side: Amarea, Easton, Jewell, and Haisley.
