Obituary
In Loving Memory of Eveleen Holmstrom Eveleene was born on August 17, 1923 to Alvin and Pearl Shiels at Abbey Saskatchewan. Soon the family moved to the Leslie Foam Lake area to be near the Springer family. They lived on the farm for a few years and then moved the family to Foam Lake where Alvin became a dray man and Pearl delivered the country mail, by use of ponies and raised their four children Katheleen, Eveleene, Irene and Albert. Eveleene was a busy girl attending school, playing sports and socializing, in the United Church with choir and CGIT. After her grade 7, she went to work for farm ladies and this is where she met her husband-to-be, Axel Holmstrom. In 1943, during the war, the couple were married. Axel left for Germany and Eveleene worked at the hospital until Donna was born. When the war was over, the couple settled on the farm, in the Osland area. Eveleene learned to be a farmer's wife, by milking cows, butchering chickens, driving tractor, hauling grain, and bucking hay. Her social life included; Bertdale Ladies Aid, playing softball, and attending dances. By 1957, the family left the farm and moved to Moose Jaw, where Eveleene went back to hospital work at the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw. In 1965 Axel and her then moved to Winnipeg and again she found work at Tuxedo at an Old Folks Home where she worked for over 20 years. She retired at age 65. In 1998 she moved to Edmonton to be near Donna and Elgin and family. In her older years she moved to Lifestyles Lodge were she still spent time with family and friends until her passing. Her favorite times were those spent visiting and watching her Four grandchildren and her Eight great-grandchildren, in their sports activities and travelling with them. She loved coming to the family birthday parties, graduations, and celebrations. She enjoyedbeing active with friends; bowling, playing shuffle board, walking her dog, and going to senior dances. She received much satisfaction from her nursing career by caring for others. She was deeply respected by the medical staff for her hard work and ability to make the residents happy with her positive energy, wit and smile. She will be remembered by her family, friends and co-workers for her courage and fearless walk through life. Eveleene will be lovingly missed by: her daughter, Donna and son-in-law, Elgin Gomme; her grandchildren, Graham (Norma Jean) Gomme and their family, Hannah, Joey, Reid and Katherine; Heather Gomme (Carl Wurfel) and their family Koen and Tayte; Robin (Chris) Gomme and their family Sydney and Lucas; and David (Nozomi) Gomme and their family Carson and Logan; as well as many extended family and friends.
