Obituary

In Loving Memory

Pauline "Pawlina" Buchko

July 7, 1932 - January 12, 2023

Pauline Buchko (nee Salley) passed away in Calgary on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the age of 90 years. We celebrate her 90 year journey as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: John Rodney and Dennis Patrick (Sandy); grandchildren Ian (Alex), Lisa (Dave), and Nicole (Diarmuid); and great-grandchildren: Raelee, Stella and Wyleigh.

Sadly, Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband, John in 1986 and was the last surviving child of Pete and Annie Salley’s large family.

Pauline was born on the family farm 1½ miles north of Springburn School. She grew up loving farm animals, picking berries, visiting neighbours and singing, especially Christmas carols.

In 1949, John and Pauline married in Wynyard. Moved to Winnipeg for three years and returned home to Wynyard. Soon their family was complete with the arrival of their two sons. In 1962, the family located to Campbell River, BC where they stayed until a final move to Calgary in 1967. Once retired, Pauline often travelled to Edmonton to enjoy precious days with Rod. Visits to Medicine Hat and her cabin at Elkwater created cherished times with her grandchildren. Pauline annually attended square dancing on Stephen Avenue during Stampede week and was a dedicated member of nearby fitness classes. Throughout Pauline’s life, regardless of her destination, she could be counted on to arrive with delicious home cooking such as cabbage rolls, Perogies, vinarterta, Saskatoon pie…

Mom

You are always there for me,

And I can count on you.

Even times I don't ask,

It's like you somehow knew.

Your heart's so full of love for me,

no matter what I do.

When God gave me a mother,

I'm glad that it was you.
