Obituary
The Celebration on Gerald life will be held on Aug 20 at 1:00 in the Wadena Legion Community Hall. Lunch to follow. The internment will take place after lunch in the Hendon Scandia Cemetary. Those who wish to make donations may do so to the Scandia purpetual care and the Canadian Cancer Society. Gerald Dwayne Leitch passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Gerald was born May 23, 1941, in Wadena, Sask. to Ken and Mary Leitch. Gerald's life was filled with happy times with family and friends and a love of the land. He strated farming with his father at a young age and he continued with his brother Allen until 2004. He then went custom combining for two years in the US which was one of the greatest thrills of his life. His last years were spent woking for one of the local young farmers. He had many interests and enjoyed curling, camping and fishing in his young years and later on spent many happy hours with Randy and Kevin with their hockey and curling. In later years he took up snowmobiling and had a lot of fun going to places liek Greenwater Park for snowmobiling outings with friends. Gerald had a great love for his community and the people in it. He spent his free time enjoying his neighbours and friends and helping them out when he could. He was always avaliable to help others and did so at every opportunity whether it was helpinga neighbour get his crop off or taking someone to the city for medical appointments. Gerald was well known as a cheerful and positive person. He fought a valiant battle with cancer, always trying to hang in there and do his best to beat it. He was a great and faithful friend to one and all. In 2001 he married Sandra Ostapowich, and together they continued with the activities that Gerald had enjoyed. They enjoyed several vacations and lots of camping excursions. In 2010 they purchased quads and had a wonderful trip with friends to the mountians. Grandchildren started coming in 2002, which provided Gerald with great joy. He was always shopping for the latest John Deere kids' stuff for "his boys" Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Mary Leitch. He is survived by his wife Sandra; stepsons Perry (Leanne) Ostapowich and Joel (Andrea) Ostapowich; grandsons, Johntee, Chett and Isaac Ostapowich; Sister Diane (Glen) Gradin and family; brother Allan (Diane) and family; and sister Bev (Ken) Lee and family. Gerald may be gone now but will not be forgotten. JUST A FARMER "Just a farmer," you said, And I laughed cause I knew All the things that farmers Must be able to do. They must study the land And then watch the sky. Figure out just when Is the right time and why- To sow and to plant to buy and to sell. To go to the market with cattle and well... You know the books That farmers must keep To pay all those debts And be able to sleep!! All of the fixn' that farmers must do. When high priced machinery Blows a gasket or two...
