In Loving Memory of Dr Walter Hudyma
When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.
Our dad, grandpa and great grandpa, Dr. Walter (Wally) Reginald Hudyma, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, one day after his 96th birthday.
Dad was born at his parents farm near Sheho, Saskatchewan on March 29, 1927. He began his education at Rivington School, south of Sheho. His parents then moved him into Sheho to live in a little shack on his own so he would be closer to the school in town. Once graduated, he attended Normal School in Saskatoon to achieve his school teacher certification. After one year out of school, he was teaching near Carrot River, Saskatchewan. Following a couple of years of teaching, he enrolled at the University of Alberta in Edmonton with the School of Dentistry and graduated in 1953 as a dental surgeon. After graduation, he practiced in Nipawin for 3 years and married Phyllis (Pat) Patterson, who was a nurse at the Nipawin Union Hospital. In 1956 they moved to Wynyard and began his dental surgeon practice, serving Wynyard and surrounding area for more than 45 years.
Dad loved the outdoors, obtaining his pilot’s license and owning a plane, going for drives and discovering Saskatchewan's out of the way places, crossword puzzles, golf, curling, Saskatchewan Roughriders, reminiscing about the good old days, baking bread, barbequing, his hobby of shortwave radioing, attending school and university reunions, and the music of Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Nana Mouskouri. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and the WynElWa Shriners. He was kind, quiet, funny, active, and a very independent fellow.
Dad was predeceased by: his wife and our mom Phyllis (Pat); his parents Wasyl and Rose Hudyma; his brothers Oliver (Bella) and Michael and sisters, Mildred (Wilf) and Verna (Charlie).
Survived and sorely missed and always treasured by his family: sons Brent (Jean) of Edmonton, Brian (Sharon) of Moose Jaw; grandsons Charlie of Edmonton, Steven (Collette) and Jarrod of Moose Jaw; great grandchildren Haydn, Carter, and Taylyn of Moose Jaw, as well as his nieces, nephews and their families.
If you wish, donations in Dad's memory can be made to his favorite charity, The Shriners Hospital for Children Canada, a charity he fundraised and volunteered with for many years.
