Memorial Service for the late John "Art" Gray was held on July 31st at 2:00 p.m. in the Foam Lake United Church. in Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Water Park or Charity of your choice. John Arthur Gray was born on March.12, 1918, at home in the Ladstock district, the youngest child of Tom Gray and Elizabeth Wade Harding Gray. He took his schooling at Ladstock School, after which he farmed with his father and brother. He joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and met his future wife Doris Atkinson in Brandon, Manitoba, where she was enlisted in the CWAC. He trained as a motor mechanic and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He recieved the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Volunteer Service Star and the king George VI Medal. Art and Doris were married in 1946, and one son and three daughters joined the family. They lived on the farm in the Ladstock district until they retired and moved to the town of Foam Lake in 1991. They were an active couple who loved to dance and were regular curlers in their younger years, then avid bowlers throughout their retirement. After Doris's passing in 1998, Art continued to be an active bowler for many years. Art was a strong community supporter and served on numerous boards and was a member of many organizations. He was also a Life Member and the Royal Canadian Legion and progressed through the ranks to become Provinicial President from 1989-1991. He was the recipient of numerous volunteer awards as well as several service medals including the highest legion award, the Palm Leaf, in 2010. Art was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Lily (Jack) Kaufenberg and Elsie (John) Soll; brother Bill (Gladys) and Grandson Chad. He is survived by his children, Judy (Dan) Thorsteinson, Jan sander, Lindsay (Barb) Gray and Wanda (Al) Lambeth; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
