Teenie Babij passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of 93 at Golden Acres long term care home in Wynyard. Teenie was born on the family farm south of Wynyard in the Krasne District on November 24, 1920 to Anna (Bzdel) and John Hawryluk. She was the third oldest of seven children. Teenie attended school intermittently for 4 or 5 years until she was sent to work on a farm in the Mozart district. While employed there she met Mike Babij, an immigrant farm worker from Ukraine. They were married on October 12, 1941 and bought their first quarter of land six miles south east of Wynyard. Their first home was a granary with a lean-to that they made their home for the next 22 years raising their 3 daughters. Over the years they purchased 2 more quarters of land and built a new house on the farm. In 1988, they purchased a house in Wynyard which was Teenies home for 22 years. Her last 3 ½ years were spent in long-term care facilities. Teenies role as mother and farm wife included raising 3 children, working in the fields, milking cows, tending to chickens and pigs, keeping a garden, and being a homemaker. Maintaining a clean home, cooking and baking were Teenies passions. She loved family time especially visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Teenie devoted her lifetime to serving her family. Teenie took great pride in what she accomplished through hard work and dedication. Achieving a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition and regular exercise was important to her. She had a strong Christian faith and believed in the power of prayer. Teenie was predeceased by her parents Anna and John, her husband Mike in 1990, and grandson Michael in 2003. She was also predeceased by brothers Mike, Bill and sister Josie. She is survived by her sister Kay Cordick of Anmore, B. C.; sister Lena Stolarchuk and brother John both of Wynyard. Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her 3 daughters and their families: Connie and John Senkiw of Foam Lake, children Carey, Tracy, and Annamarie; Phyllis Babij, and daughter Tanya of Saskatoon; Linda and Barrie Broad of Humboldt, children Carla, Donna, and Kevin. Teenie will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
