Melvin Dennis Johnson was born on January 12, 1941 at the Nipawin Union Hospital , Nipawin, SK to Melvin & Ivy Johnson. He grew up on the family homestead west of Codette, SK.

Dennis has three sisters: Dorothy, Velma and Debra. He went to school at Elk Horn Country School, in the Codette District. Dennis joined the work force at a young age. He farmed with his dad and worked at Newfield Seeds in Nipawin, SK. Dennis’ true passion was farming.

Dennis married Bernice Kiland in 1970 - a nurse at Nipawin Hospital. Dennis and Bernice had two children: Cindy Denise and Sheldon Dennis. Bernice and Dennis continued to farm until they retired in 2017 when they moved to Nipawin, SK.

Over the years Dennis and Bernice had animals on their farm.They had pigs, chickens, calves, horses, cats and dogs. Dennis enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, playing cards and bingo. He enjoyed every card game he played with his grandsons, Nicholas, Noah, and Matthew, neighbours and relatives.

Dennis was patient, soft spoken and kind. He loved to read trapping, hunting, game synopses, as well as true stories by authors living on the land. Dennis appreciated anyone young and old who took the time to visit with him.

Dennis leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 53 years, Bernice; his two children: Cindy (Shaun) Brown and Sheldon Johnson; three grandsons: Nicholas, Noah, and Matthew;sisters: Dorothy Reed, Velma (Albin) Walcer and Debbie (Dominik) Miniaci; sister-in-law Arlene (Mervin) Kryzanowski; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
