In Loving Memory of Ruth Hoover
Ruth Elizabeth Hoover passed away surrounded by family on her 95th birthday. Ruth was born on September 17, 1928 to Floyd and Sarah Budd on the Budd family farm by Kelliher, Saskatchewan. She grew up in a family of 12 children, with six brothers and five sisters. Ruth attended Firefly School and often reminisced about the walks to school with her siblings. After completing school, she worked at the Lestock Hospital with her sisters, then began working on the Hoover farm near West Bend, where she met Philip. On July 12, 1961, Ruth married Philip Hoover, and together they had two children, Danny and Linda. Philip and Ruth purchased a home in Foam Lake in 1972 where the family lived in the winters, while continuing to reside at the farm during the spring, summer and fall. Philip tragically passed away in 1978, and Ruth continued to be involved in the Hoover farm until the 1990s.
When Ruth moved into town full time, she began babysitting, working for several families over the years and helping to raise many children. Babysitting was more of a passion for her than a job, and she truly enjoyed her time spent with kids. Ruth was absolutely delighted to have three grandchildren of her own and loved looking after her girls. She attended every dance recital and sporting event, never missing a special occasion. Gatherings with her siblings, children and grandchildren were Ruth’s favourite pastime of all. She enjoyed phone calls with siblings, relatives, and friends, and she sincerely looked forward to letters and cards exchanged in the mail. Aside from staying close with family, Ruth’s interests revolved around plants and gardening. She could identify almost every flower or plant, and she took absolute pride in planting and caring for her garden. Ruth also enjoyed both curling and bowling, playing in leagues with many different people and teams over the years. In retirement, Ruth loved playing cards at the Seniors Centre, getting together for a game of Chickenfoot, and spending time with family, no matter what the occasion.
Ruth was always fiercely independent, living alone in her house in Foam Lake until the age of 94. She became a resident of Pleasantview Care home in Wadena in the fall of 2022 and continued to reside there until she passed away. Ruth is predeceased by her parents Floyd and Sarah Budd, her husband Philip, siblings and in-laws Eugene and Lorna Budd, Joyce and Raymond Riedel, Alvin and Margaret Budd, Pearl and Joe Beros, James and Joanne Budd, Helen and Oliver Aamodt, Veva and George Bast, Lloyd Budd, and George Cooper. Ruth is survived by her son Danny (Maureen) and granddaughter Mary, and daughter Linda (Borden), and granddaughters Bailey and Jessenta. Ruth is also survived by siblings and in-laws Hazel Budd, Iva Cooper, Norval and Vera Budd, and Donald and Loreen Budd, and many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss her.
