Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mitchell Gawron

Mitch was born on April 23, 1937, at the family farmhouse in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, where he spent his entire life.

Mitch was the youngest of 5, with 4 older sisters. He attended school in Kelvington until grade 10 when he left school to look after the family farm which consisted of cattle, chickens and grain farming.

Mitch met Brenda Bradley, the love of his life, in 1962 and it was a match made in heaven.

Mitch married Brenda on August 17, 1964, in Kelvington, on a Monday. It was a beautiful celebration of a beautiful couple.

They were blessed with 3 wonderful children, Gwen, Garth and Glenda, who kept him busy with community events, hockey, coaching, softball/fastball, curling, 4-H beef club, figure skating and church activities. He also loved driving the boat at the lake for the kids and friends to go knee boarding, water skiing and fishing.

Mitch enjoyed gardening, looking after his posies, making sauerkraut, cutting grass, being the BBQ grill master, moving snow from one pile to another and playing cards with family and friends.

Mitch was very involved with the church. He started maintaining the Catholic cemetery at the age of 17 and he finally parked the lawn mower at the age of 80, due to failing health.

Mitch was also involved with the Knights of Columbus. He became a chartered member in 1974 of the Father Kunka Council and in 1977 he was appointed financial secretary, an office he held for 41 years.

Mitch avidly supported community sports, particularly curling and hockey. He loved to curl and enjoyed the sport almost his entire life. He helped build the new skating rink that his children, son-in-laws and grandchildren would spend countless hours using. You could always find him at the rink cheering on the Kelvington Wheat Kings even after Garth, Reid and Todd moved on from Kelvington.

Mitch was predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Aniela Gawron; sisters, Phyllis Majocha, Marian Thiessen, Jean Goodmuson, Helen Moynes, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Gawron. Mitch is survived by Brenda, his loving wife of 59 years; children, Gwen and Reid (Isley), Garth and Jodie Gawron, and Glenda and Todd (Svenson); grandchildren, Leesa and Dryden Isley, Dillon, Logan, Bryton, Austin, Jayna and Jacob Gawron, and Hayley, Heidi, Amy and Allyssa Svenson; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Blake and Samuel.

We all miss his laughter, singing, sense of humour, and his love for his family, friends and community.
