Noreen took most of her schooling in Nora, she then trained at Saskatoon Business College in Saskatoon, SK. Shortly after finishing school, Noreen was pleased to accept a job at the Bank of Montreal in Rose Valley, where Holger was waiting for her to return from the city. Noreen and Holger were married in 1952. To this union two children were born,Sherwin and Marilyn. They lived on the family farm, with Holger’s parents, in one house, without the conveniences of today. They had a mixed farm, raising many animals, and were particularly proud of the Purebred Limousin cattle and the Purebred Canadian Rustic Ponies that they developed as a breed.
Holger and Noreen enjoyed fishing. At one point they built a cabin at Barrier Ford where they enjoyed entertaining family, friends, and neighbors. They also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and attending the Seniors Drop In Center.
Over the years, Noreen worked in many retail stores in Rose Valley suchas Swidersky General Store, Christi Roberts Store, Katchurs Clothing, and The Rose Valley Pharmacy. Noreen was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church and volunteered in her church and in the community on various boards and committees. Noreen and Holger travelled a lot of places over the years: Hawaii, Alaska and 13 other states. Texas was a memorable destination as her dad had lived there.
Holger passed away in the summer of 2016. Noreen continued to live in her home.In the winter of 2022, Noreen moved into the Rose Valley Community Spirit Manor, because she was tired of cooking for herself and didn’t want to drive in the winter. By spring, she decided she really liked living in the Manor and made it her permanent home. Noreen enjoyed the camaraderie of the Manor, the staff and the other residents. Up until recently, Noreen was in good health. It was only the last few months she developed major health issues. Noreen passed peacefully in the early morning of January 23, 2024 at the Wadena Union Hospital, Wadena, SK.
