In Loving memory of Raymond Shumi Sr. “Zoot”. Raymond passed peacefully on Jauary 27, 2024 at the Kelvindell Lodge in Kelvington, Saskatchewan with family by his side.
Raymond leaves behind to mourn his passing his: wife Doreen; children – Jennifer Quewezance, Charmaine Ahpay, Rayleen Shumi, Raymond Shumi Jr., Rayna Shumi and Raydin Shumi as well as siblings, grandchildren, and many extended family.
Raymond was born on August 5, 1946 in Nut Lake Indian Reserve, Saskatchewan. He enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work, listening to old-time fiddle music. Raymond was a champion jigger for many years, whom had an amazing talent that won many trophies. He loved to jig, play the violin, participate in traditional ceremonies and hunting. As a young man, he participated in many sports, keeping busy and fit as his fiddle. Raymond always enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He welcomed the opportunity to meet new people. His favorite past-time was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a big Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Blue Jays fan.
Raymond was a great husband, father and grandfather who always lent a helping hand to anyone in need. Raymond was a kind and generous man who lived a long traditional happy life.
He will be truly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, numerous friends and family as well as anyone who was lucky enough to know him.
Raymond is predeceased by his: daughter Bernice Shumi; son Randy Shumi; brother Raymond Ninnie; mother Tootsie Ninnie; father Alec Wapasshoes; and grandparents – by which he was raised by – Mr. & Mrs. Shumi.
