In Loving Memory of Katie Rudey
With heartfelt sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of our beautiful Mom, Baba and Great Baba, Katie Rudey, on Friday January 26th, 2024 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, at the age of 95.
Mom was born on the family farm on May 13, 1928 to Kost and Wasylyna (Husulak) Stadnyk. Growing up, she attended Krasny School, until Grade 10.
On November 10, 1945 she married Matt Rudey at the Kuprowski Church. They settled on the family farm until the fall of 1953 at which time they moved to Sheho so their children would be closer to school.
They were blessed with four children - Shirley, Judy, Karen and Danny.
Mom was actively involved in many organizations in her community: The Ukrainian Ladies Aid, the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, Parkland Community College, the curling club, the hall committee and several others.
Mom was a devout member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Trinity in Sheho. She sang in the choir and cantored for many years - serving the local churches. Christmas carolling was a tradition she enjoyed for over 60 years.
During her lifetime, Mom undertook many jobs - first helping her mother and her friend Mrs. Bachinsky cook for Ukrainian weddings, later doing the same with sister-in-lawBella Koropanicki. All her great cooking skills and recipes have been passed on to her children, especially to her son Danny.
To help out financially, Mom always worked at jobs, both in Regina and Yorkton, then also did some babysitting. In 1977 she got a part time job at the Sheho Post Office where she later became the Post Mistress, until its close in 1992.
Mom enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She had many hobbies; playing softball, curling, teaching sewing, bingo, cross stitching, crocheting, gardening with granddaughters Trina and Tricia and especially baking beautiful kolachi and paska. One of her greatest joys was helping Danny when he began his catering business.
Mom and Dad enjoyed a few special holiday trips to Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Whitehorse, Winnipeg and Edmonton. After Dad passed away, one of her fondest memories was a trip to Vegas to celebrate her granddaughter’s 30th birthday.
Mom was predeceased by: husband Matt in 1993; her parents Kost and Wasylyna; step brother Bill; brothers Steve, John and Matt and sisters Effie, Mary, Dora and Annie.
