In Loving Memory of Mike Holowaty
Mike Holowaty was born to Eli and Anastasia Holowaty on November 3, 1934. He was the youngest of 10 children. He went to Malby School for his grades one to eight. He then quit school to help out at the farm where he stayed and eventually took it over when his Mom and Dad retired in the mid fifties. For a short time, he was accompanied by Fred Knihnitski, who had immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine, during the winter months. When Mike’s mother passed away in 1973, he became the caregiver for his father for the next seven years. By this time they had moved off the farm to a house in FoamLake and he farmed from town. He eventually rented out his land, then sold it when he decided to retire. Trips were made to visit his sister Annie in Moose Jaw and to the casino in Regina and even Winnipeg.
In June of 2007 he decided to get a change of scenery, sold his house and moved to Yorkton where he lived for a few years and made some new friends. Deciding it was time to get back home to Foam Lake he took up residence at the Tiger Lily Residence for seniors, where he stayed until his health began to fail and he moved over to the Jubilee Nursing Home.
Mike was predeceased by his: father (1980), mother (1973), brothers -Metro (1997), Bill (2005), Nick (2006), Steve (2009), John (2014); sisters - Mary (2020) and Annie (2022); in-laws Bob McArthur, Fred Bonar and Steve Zadorozniak.
He leaves to mourn his passing his sister Katie Bonar and numerous nieces and nephews.
He passed away on February 6, 2024. May he rest in peace.
