Obituary

In Loving Memory of Edna Paulson

Edna Elmira (Bindig) Paulson passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2024, at the Golden Eagle View wing of the
Canmore Hospital.

Edna was born on October 20, 1932, on the family farm near Leroy, SK to her parents Lena and Gustav Bindig. She
was the second of their five children.
Her family later moved to a farm near Kuroki, SK. Here, Edna became good friends with a neighbor, Sylvia Paulson,
who introduced her to her cousin, “Billy”, at a dance at Pop’s Pavilion in 1950. They fell in love immediately, and
were married November 1st, 1951.
She and Bill settled on the Paulson family farm near Foam Lake which was their home until they moved to
Cochrane in 2017. They were blessed with two children; Donna, who was born in 1952 and their son, Keith, in
1954.

Edna loved life, and her cheerful, outgoing nature meant that she enthusiastically embraced family, farm and
community life. She actively participated in the farm work, milking cows, driving grain trucks and operating “her tractor”. Edna
loved being outdoors with the family dog always at her side. She delighted in springtime songbirds and wildflowers,
and raised a large garden and beautiful flower beds.

Edna enjoyed curling and bowling with local groups. She and Bill were active long time members of the Bertdale
Community Club, and the Vatnabyggd Icelandic Club.
Church was an important part of her life growing up, and this continued with her involvement with the Foam Lake
United Church.

Music became a big part of her married life. She and Bill enjoyed old time and pattern dances, and in later years,
when they had more leisure time, she learned to chord on the keyboard at the age of 65 so she could play with Bill
in their various bands and music events.

Edna was a talented woman – cake decorating, crocheting and knitting, intricate hardanger, quilting, petit point and
cross stitch were just some of her projects.
