In Loving Memory Of Dawnis Halyk-Lesko

 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Dawnis Sharman Gay Halyk-Lesko, of Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 15, 2024, at the age of 71. 

 

Dawnis was born to the late Russell and Kathleen Haw, August 6, 1952, in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. Dawnis followed her love of learning and attended the University of Saskatchewan to become a teacher. She worked in a variety of teaching roles and schools, where she shared her joy for education and creativity, inspiring children to be curious and try their best.

 

 Dawnis was extremely talented and creative, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, weaving, painting, woodworking, and many more creative hobbies, for which she received several accolades. She also loved to read, watch sports, spend time gardening, and she became proficient at sailing. Dawnis always made room for additional joyful moments in her life by singing, dancing, and traveling whenever she could. 

 

Dawnis is survived by former spouse, Thomas Walter Halyk, and their two children, Dionne Halyk and Thomas Shawn Halyk, Thomas’ wife Ceci, and also by former spouse, Bill Lesko, and his 3 children. Dawnis was the youngest of two children, and is survived by her sister, Mavis Humenny, her late brother-in-law, Glorian Humenny, and their two children, Kelvin (Paula) Humenny and Sheldon (Michelle) Humenny.

 

 Dawnis was part of two wonderful families, the Haw family and Melnechenko family, and leaves behind more extended family than we can name. She will also be dearly missed by her friends from across Canada, whom she met while living throughout Saskatchewan, Cold Lake, Alberta, Shearwater, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
