In Loving Memory of Mabel & Reuben Rediger
Reuben Clifford Rediger was born to Herman and Katherine (Beiber) Rediger on April 14, 1933 in Wadena, SK. He attended school at the McKinley Country School, in the Margo District. Reuben grew up on the family farm north of Margo, SK. Reuben had 3 brothers: Norman, Wilbur and Arnold. Reuben had an innate sense for mechanics, of which he expanded his knowledge, attending a mechanics course in Saskatoon, SK. Reuben was a reserved man who enjoyed spending time with his family and watching VHS and DVD’s - old westerns on the T.V. He made a skating rink on the garden for the kids to use in the winter. He was a very capable Barbecuer and many enjoyed his cooking. Reuben passed in 2011 after a short illness in Wadena Hospital, Wadena, SK.
Mabel Lillian Rediger was born to Austin and Margaret (Prince) Johnson on April 11, 1932 at the Johnson Homestead on the farm in the Kuroki District. She travelled to school by horseback. Mabel had one sister Gladys. She liked spending time in the outdoors, and getting together with friends and family playing whist, baking homemade bread, cinnamon buns, and butter tarts. Mabel loved her garden and spent countless hours working in it. She had arrow straight, weedless rows upon rows of vegetables. She canned, preserved and froze the fruits of her labour. She loved flowers, particularly peonies and bleeding hearts, and had many flowers in her garden, as well as all around her house. Over the years, besides raising her 3 children, Mabel also worked in health care in the laundry and housekeeping departments. Mabel lived in her own home until she was 80, retiring to Weneeda Park Lodge and then to Pleasant View Care Home in 2022.
Mabel and Reuben were married on October 3, 1955 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Margo, SK. They lived in Wadena, Archerwill, Margo, and Lynn Lake. They had 3 children: Glen, Lillian, and Clifford. When living on the farm, Mabel and Reuben had livestock, poultry, pigs, and turkeys only once. They also hobby grain farmed. Over the years, Mabel and Reuben enjoyed travelling to see their children and grandchildren, delivering baking and produce from their garden. Mabel and Reuben hunted and fished together and played cards with neighbours. They had a Gordon Setter, Sheba, a stray dog that they rescued. Sheba became a member of the family and when they went for ice cream, she got her own individual ice cream cone. Mabel and Reuben retired while living in Wadena, SK. Mabel and Reuben were predeceased by: their parents; son Glen; and Reuben’s brothers Wilbur and Arnold; and son-in-law Robert Tanner. Left to mourn their passing is their: daughter Lillian (Earl Haugerud) Tanner; son Clifford & Alyssa Rediger; grandchildren Steven (Carol) Tanner, Kimberley (Adam) Tanner, Crystal & Daniel Nabess, Clifford (Victoria) Rediger and Great-grandchildren Sean Tanner, Irwynn Rediger, Jerri Rediger, Wilson Rediger and Tori Nabess.
