Margaret Minky
March 9, 1935 - June 15, 2024
Margaret Louise Brown was born March 9th, 1935, in Kelvington, SK to Bob and Jodi (Huntington) Brown. She attended school in Kelvington.
In 1955 Margie married Donny Minky. We all know they had one son, Wayne born later that year, whom they lost way too early, in 1987. Margie had her daughter-in- law Debbie and four grandsons who grieved with her. The boys kept Gramma and their Great Aunts very busy. Margie now has five great grandchildren who will miss all the goodies Gramma Margie baked. And many more who called her Grandma Margie
Margie started work at Fraser’s Grocery Store from 1959-1964 and worked there till the store closed. After a few years off she started working at the Coop grocery Store and worked for 29 years as the produce manager. She would slip out to the farm at noon for Granny’s lunch and a short nap.
Margie enjoyed playing ball and curling but golfing wasn’t for her. She loved to watch her Edmonton Oilers. Kelly was on the phone with gramma this past Saturday, telling her about the game and she smiled when they won Saturday night. I don’t think there was a sport she didn’t watch.
Margie loved to Garden! Probably three or four gardens planted the last few years, in town and on the farm. Her cooking was great. She loved to feed us all a meal. Ribs, fish with mashed potatoes and fish gravy. Chicken and rice. I’m sure we all have our favorite dish that she made.
And then there is baking. Buns, rice krispie balls, fudge, canning peaches, making all kinds of jams, relishes. Coffee pot was always on.
And then it was news time. She knew what was going on all over the country. She would call and tell you what was happening in your city or town. Kelly finally told her to stop watching the damn news.
Margie was predeceased by her: husband Don, son Wayne, daughter-in-law Debbie, brother Billy Brown, sister Doreen “Tootie” Brown-Minky, brother-in-law Malcolm Murray and brother-in-law Harold Minky.
Margie is survived by her: sister Verna Murray (Shelly Kot, Karen + Andre Roux, Joanne + Bill Schulte), Patty + Wally Carbno (Todd + Alanna Carbno, Troy + Carleen Carbno) and sister- in- law, Hazel Brown (Debbie + Kevin O’Neil, Bobby + Carmen Brown), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and close friends.
