Celebrating The Life of Ray Hanson
Raymond Dennis (Ray) Hanson was born August 12, 1941, the 4th of 5 children born to Reidar and Ragna Hanson at Rose Valley, SK. Ray grew up with four sisters on a farm that had been in the family since his great aunt homesteaded it. Ray was baptized, confirmed and married at the Nut Lake Lutheran Church. Ray and Sandra also had all their children baptized there. Growing up Ray attended the Pipestone Creek Country School and Rose Valley School. He also attended Agricultural School in Saskatoon, SK. In 1962, Ray married the love of his life, Sandra Brown! On August 3, 2024 Ray and Sandra celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary! Two sons and one daughter were born to this union, Dennis, Donna and Darren. Ray and Sandra continued to live on the family farm until 1995, when they moved to an acreage near Tisdale, SK. In 2006, they moved to “The Lake House” near Barrier Ford Resort. Recently, they decided a condo in Tisdale, SK would be a comfortable move. Just days ago, Ray mentioned to his family that “he had had a good life and felt he had accomplished a lot”. Rays most enjoyable occupation was farming. Over the years, he custom harvested in USA and CANADA, worked on the rigs, helped built annexes, drove semi trucks, sold life insurance, and was a crop insurance adjuster. Ray was proud to serve on the Saskatchewan Conversation and Development Association for more than 30 years. While on the C & D Board Ray & Sandra made lifelong friends. He mentored, not only his sons but several nephews, teaching them all how to operate machinery, plus many life skills that they continue to use in their lives!
Ray’s Norwegian heritage was very important to him. He was a proud member of ‘Sons of Norway’. His two trips to Norway visiting relatives were very special to Ray. Ray always enjoyed dancing, curling, 4H, playing cards and travelling. The last few years he also enjoyed coffee row and continued his love of card playing! Ray and Sandra travelled to local communities for Bridge, Nil, and Cribbage tournaments. Ray always loved time with family. The last few years he put on many many miles attending birthday parties and events of his great-grandchildren. Ray enjoyed visiting his neighbours and friends which were very important to him. Ray and Sandra were honoured to have 7 Godchildren and had been chosen to be legal guardians to another 7 children.
Ray is survived by his: wife Sandra; children - Dennis (Nicolette), Donna (Rick), and Darren (Sharlene); 10 Grandchildren and 26 Great grandchildren; sisters - Helen, Leona (Joe) and Raelene (Mel); sisters-in-law - Marlys (Charles) and Lannette as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Ray was predeceased by his: parents, parents-in-law Johnny and Agnes Brown; sister Vivian; sister-in-law Annette; grandson Travis; three nieces, one nephew and several brothers in-law.
The family appreciates the exceptional care Ray received at Tisdale Hospital, Tisdale Home Care and all medical staff who had a part in Rays journey! Ray told his family how much he appreciated their gentleness and compassion. Ray’s family is incredibly grateful for all the kindness and caring everyone has shown throughout his sickness and since his passing!
